strange game freeze when engaging certain ME army?

theres a middle eastern rebel army near timbuktu. it has 2 units of sudanese tribesmen, one desert archer, and one tuareg camel spearman.

every time i engage it and click 'fight battle on battle map' i get just a movable cursor on a black screen.
if i rightclick it turns into an hourglass, and i hear the battle loading music, but nothing...
i cant kill the bloody process either.. if i hit ctrl-alt-del then nothing happens. or the hourglass turns back into a cursor. tried alt+F3 as well, that doesnt do anything. i literally have to reset my computer, its bloody annoying.

ive had freezes like this before every couple of days, is this a known bug? i havent modded anything other than unlocking the factions.

in the meantime i guess i have to just autoresolve

I have the exact same problem, except it's with the Timurids. At around 150 turns into my Venetian campaign, they sieged Tbilisi (a fortress) with two full stacks vs. my own full stack. Every single time they assault the fortress and I try to play it out on the battle map, the screen turns black and then nothing. I'm forced to do a hard reboot. This is annoying cos the auto-calc isn't in my favour, and I badly need that fortress.

I've never had this problem fighting any other faction, including the rebels, but then I rarely ever fight them anyway. I'm guessing it's some kind of skin loading glitch or something.
