    Default [Submod] Age of the Five Kings - RELEASING WIP FILES



    King Robert Baratheon is dead, and his kingdom is dying with him. An unstable boy king sits on the Iron Throne while his supporters ravage the Riverlands. Robert's brothers have turned on one another while the young Lord Stark marches south to avenge his father and the Lord Reaper of Pyke plots to regain his throne. Some houses have joined the fray, while others stand on the sidelines and scheme in secret. And yet, as the realm descends into war, ravens have flown down from the Wall to warn that rangers have gone missing in the Haunted Forest, and ancient evils are on the move. As these five men tear the Seven Kingdoms to pieces, it remains to be seen which shall found royal dynasties to last a thousand years, and which shall feed the crows.

    ANNOUNCEMENT:
    OK, it's become clear to me that I won't be getting back to this for quite some time. Now that Beginning of the End Times is out, I'm gonna be working on a new super secret (and incredibly awesome) mod with the End Times team, so I won't have time for this.

    As such, I'm releasing all the work I've done to the public, in case anyone wants to pick up where I've left off. This obviously isn't complete, and is meant as a resource for modders. Anyone can use my work in any M2TW mod as long as you give credit and tell me about it (don't wait for me to respond, just send me a PM so I know). Good luck, and may the God Emperor light your way!

    Oh common Thrawn, isn't two versions of AOPK released in less than 4 months too much for you? Do you just have to keep throwing this amazingness at us? You're basically gonna recreate Westeros Total War 1.0 before it is even released So much +rep, for you, ser!

    I would love to try and help out with some stuff, have been pretty busy as of late but should let up in a couple of weeks, so I should have time to take some stuff on(not a ton of modding experience, but enough to do probably most of the things that you are looking for)

    All due respect for the work you have done, Thrawn, but what is the point of this? If you are interested in creating a mod centered around the war of five kings, why not assist the W:TW team in bringing 1.0 to fruition instead of making a (seemingly redundant) identical project.

    AoFK will have a lot of features WTW won't (the AOPK regional rosters/recruitment system, the NW/Wildlings, more settlements, improved versions of the 3.0 building chains, betrayal scripts, Others, etc). As such, I'm trying to make this a unique project that people will play in addition to 1.0 when it comes out.

    Plus, I work much better when at the helm of my own project instead of taking orders from someone else. Does that make me an ego-driven narcissist? Perhaps, but it keeps me motivated and churning out work so I roll with it .

    Great idea, I would like to help but I am currently learning on modding. The only thing I am able to do is make portraits for the generals, because I have done so in every m2tw mod I have downloaded. I wanted to suggest something about the bwb and the others. You can give the others one settlement in the frozen shore and make them playable but with expensive units (to raise their difficulty). For the bwb you can give them stoney sept or another settlement in the riverlands close to king's landing, make their unit roster mostly levies and peasants except their bodyguards or some elite troops I don't know. Anyway I know these are just suggestions and if I manage to understand in a week or so how to mod, then I will be happy to help!!

    To be fair, we have AoR troops, Wildlings and NW, specialised building and pacification chains, and an absurd amount of scripts, traits, lore, ancs and other things. So kinda concur rather than in addition it would be in competition; creating a submod of an earlier version of the main mod to rival the main mod is... odd.

    Surely time would be better spent adapting your features such as your recruitment to a submod of 1.0? Just sayin'.

    No way, didn't know the NW was included!

    Basically my mindset is more of a "why not" mentality. The work here is mostly done as I'm basically just reskinning a couple AOPK rosters and renaming all the characters so this should be out well before 1.0 (regardless of whether I pitch in).

    Well recall that since my modeling/mapping/skinning skills aren't exactly on par with the 1.0 team it's not like my presence would get it done "in a day or two" (and saying so kinda sells the 1.0 team short). I basically just have a "mass production" line set up to quickly churn out units based on original AOPK templates. That's how I finish these mods so fast. You'll even see below that the "Red Cloaks" are just Night's Watch Builders with Lannister colors/shields, plus a spear. Took me like 2 minutes to make .

    Anyhow, once I finish the units I'll send out copies to all the poor volunteers who agreed to help with strat work (see above). Then, once they're done re-positioning/renaming all the characters, we'll move into beta while I finish the scripts!

    I'm glad to see your turning your efforts towards the War of Five Kings. And I for one don't think this mod in any way undermines or supplants 1.0. I'm just glad there's goanna be a mod that allows me to enjoy this era sooner rather than way later, if ever. I think, like many of us non-modders, we just want something to play with, and if this allows me to do that before I turn old and grey, then all the better. Seriously, 1.0 team, this should inspire some renewed effort on your part!

    Look, let's stop telling the 1.0 team to hurry up. Being harassed by overeager fans doesn't really inspire people to put in extra work .

    As for a progress report, last night I reskinned all the Riverland, Crownland, and Blackwater houses and units. Those regions had the most changes, so the other kingdoms should be done soon and we can focus on strategy work.
