hi,
will EB II be made available for Macs?
thanks
I played Medieval II and the mod Stainless Steel 6.3 on my MacBook long ago (in addition to RTW and the Roma Surrectum II mod via Feral Entertainment's Mac version), yet that was because I bothered to go through the laborious process of partitioning my hard drive using BootCamp, so that I had both an Mac OSX plus Windows 7 operating system (you could choose either one during the boot up of the laptop). I basically partitioned my hard drive so that 200 some odd gigabytes were allocated to the Mac OSX while about 40 gigabytes were used up by Windows 7, which had a bare bones amount of programs and was mostly taken up by the game Medieval II itself plus the Stainless Steel mod.
Theoretically, I could have also played EB II on that partitioned hard drive for my MacBook.

MII actually runs quite well on Parallels Desktop, if your specs are good enough. It will run you about $80 thought i got mine for half price. Black Friday or Cyber Monday would have been your best bet for finding it on sale.
Some have said they got MII to run using Wine but that never worked for me on any of my three Macs.
Update: Med 2 has now been ported to mac. Will EB 2 be able to work with it? (we can't open .exe files)
Thats not really the issue. WineSkin for mac works quite well most M2TW mods formatted as exes. (http://winebottler.kronenberg.org)
There are, however some issues with the EB2 installer in terms of directories and such. And even when I've gotten the files installed, there are some issues with some files that are formatted differently than they are in most other M2TW mods.
I've been meaning to post about this since i found out about the Mac port a couple weeks ago. I already had EBII installed on my windows partition, so i just moved the folder and it worked! I zipped up the folder to post a link to it, but with my slow internet it would have taken 18 hours and i can't go that long without using the internet. It would probably fail anyway. I never was able to get M2TW to run using Wine, however the EB2 installer did work for me!
So once you get the EBII folder, this is how you get it running on your Mac.
first make sure the EBII folder is placed here
Library/Application Support/Steam/steamapps/common/Medieval II Total War/Medieval2Data/mods
from the M2TW launcher, click on the advanced tab. In the advanced options field enter the following:
--features.mod=mods/EBII
when you click play it should load EBII. I had an addition problem where i couldn't save. To solve that problem create the following folder
Library/Application Support/Feral Interactive/Medieval II Total War/VFS/Local/mods/EBII/saves
give permission to all to read and write to the folder. If you have any saved games you started in Windows, you can move them into this folder and finish them.

So I've downloaded M2TW, but via the App Store, not Steam. At the mo it's sitting in Applications. Where should I move it, or the EBII folder, or both, to get EBII to run? And will I need to do something in Library/Application Support as well?
Parts of it i figured out by trial and error and some of it others had posted. So what problems are you still having? I had switched back to using Windows, but after changing some setting and plugging into my older graphics card, its actually running better on Mac than Windows for me. I don't have any idea about crashes with battles since i always auto-resolve.
There's another thread that describes how to fix the battle crashes (although I haven't tried a siege yet), related to moving the banner files around. The only thing that isn't perfect on my Feral/Steam/unpacked-in-windows-and-transfered-files build, now, is the main menu screen, which plays the original M2TW background sequence of knights and pikemen walking in silhouette. But I don't care about that. It's quite a bit better than what I was doing before, running through Windows 7/parallels from an external – that was actually so bad that I stopped playing it.
Life is good.
I saw a link to a thread about it, but didn't read it since i always auto-resolve. I had actually done the fix for it though since it was included in the new installation instructions for EB2. I"ve got the wrong background sequence too. I haven't bothered looking for a solution to that and actually forgot about it. I click through so fast i don't even notice it. I was having memory leaks using the parallels way so i had started using BootCamp to boot to Windows. So excited that i don't have to do either now. If only they had let Feral handle the conversion for Rome II, then i could play DEI on my mac as well.

I can play campaign just fine, I can save, etc.
I can't fight battles though. How does that get fixed? Autoresolve is boring.

Anyone? Bueller?
To OP, I remember I used this wrapper with great result in Wineskin :
paulthetall.com/medieval-2-total-war-mac/
Played EB1 with the apple exe and also played whole IB2 britania campaign on the macintosh side of my apple computer with tthe wineskin wrapper I posted above. . I ran most TW games on a bootcamp partition. Frankly even AttilaTW will run smoothly on a professionnal apple machine with a windows partition. Powerbooks and other apple laptops are another story though... Apple is not what it once were, anyway, just do like me, switch to PC at first occasion. Apple gave up to planned obsolescence just like anybody. Besides, wether you work with sounds or pictures, PC can do just as well.
At Roberto 100 : Try to find the other campaigns like Teutonic or Crusades. Wherever they are is where the mods should be installed. That's how it works with Windows and I don't see why it would be the same in mac os.

Just remembered my question regarding fixing CTD for battles was never answered.

If you follow the instructions in the thread you should be able to reach solutions for both field and siege battles however they're using Feral Interactives version of M2TW.

I eventually gave up on getting EB II to install/run, but I'd like to have another crack at it!
So, I have:
• In Downloads, a folder called EBII_2.2b, containing an .exe and lots of .bin files.
• In Applications, Medieval II: Total War Collection (I have to do "Show Package Contents" to see what's in it) – I did not get this via Steam, and to date I've not used Steam.
• Also in Applications, Wine.
I've tried following the installation instructions here, but while I can open the .exe (the install wizard) via Wine, I can't figure out how/where to install the files. "Make sure the installer is pointed at your M2TW directory" – OK… I click on "Browse" and then Z:\ and, within that, Applications, and there I can see Medieval II Total War.app. Selecting that as the destination doesn't work. Selecting Medieval II Total War.app/Contents/Resources/Data/mods doesn't work.
Could anyone help me out? I can usually figure out most things I want to do eventually, but this continues to elude me.
