A party of Peake bannermen, led by Ser Loras Peake, arrives at the gates of Goldengrove. They desire the opportunity to speak to Lord Addam Goldengrove.

They are stopped at the gates. At the walls, the captain of the guard, a rather tall man called Wendell, yells at them. Beside him stand a hundred archers.

"Who is out there? What are your intentions?"

It was all a show. Peake arms were easily recognizable and Addam had already been informed of their arrival. It had been his decision to receive them like this.

Loras looks momentarily surprised by these actions. "I am Ser Loras Peake, envoy of Lord Lorimar Peake of Starpike. We have come to treat with Lord Rowan.

The commander of the garrison nods

    "Wait here."

A couple of minutes later, the portcullis opens and the Peake party is allowed inside the courtyard. Wendell then approached Ser Peake.

"Lord Rowan awaits for you in the throne room. You may only enter alone, your men are to stay here."

Loras nodded calmly. He unbuckled his sword belt and handed it to one of his men, before entering the castle.

The main door opens and Ser Loras enters to the main hall.
He sees Lord Rowan sitting in the throne and beside him several courtiers. There were also numerous guards at both the entrance and next to Addam.

    "Yes?"

    Rowan asks.

Loras bows slightly. "My father, Lord Lorimar Peake would like to humbly request your aid in the war."

Lord Addam looks at Ser Loras with a puzzled face.

    "And who would you be?"

A raven arrives from Highgarden, to the south

To the Lord of Goldengrove, Addam of Rowan,

I, the High Steward Osmund of Tyrell, have reclaimed Highgarden for the purpose of beginning an end to this realm divide.
On behalf of Mern of Gardener, who I have chosen to bequeath this traditional throne to, we beseech you to consider joining in hand with my humble House of Tyrell in ending the realm divide.

On a level of blunt honest, I can understand your possible concerns as to a Reach ruled by one Mern Gardener, or your doubts as to the ability of his court and governance.
But I assure you, I can attempt to assuage those concerns and doubts, if you entertain the words we may offer.

We do not demand your allegiance simply because of the practicality of doing so. Consider that when judging our worthiness of your allegiance.
However, we also would warmly remind you that joining with us now will speed the process of unification, and the sooner we unify, the sooner the united Reach can deal with its neighbors.

Respond to us when thouest feels to do so. Dialogue is opened, you need only engage with it.

Written by Osmund of Tyrell, High Steward and Regent of the Reach

Loras looks the man straight in the eye. "I am Ser Loras Peake, his middle son."

    "Ah."

    Rowan slowly nods.

"And why should I pledge my swords to your father's cause?"

"Because he is the most fit of the lords to be king. Already, he has done what no other has thought of and secured a non aggression pact with the King of the Rock, protecting the Northern Reach from invasion. He has sent his own daughter as a hostage for the sake of this realm. If any lord deserves your support, it is he. He is also willing to offer my younger brother for marriage to a member of your family."

    Addam's eyes widen in confusion

"On what terms was peace negotiated with the Westermen?"

Loras cocks his head slightly."With respect, my lord, you are not declared for any side. You could have decided to fight for Mern or Manderly. Such information being thrown about could damage our cause significantly."

Addam's voice changes. What had Peake done?

"With respect, Ser Peake, this is a matter that involves myself and all of the northern Lords. Why would you keep this information from myself? One could speculate that it is because the terms are not all favourable."

Ser Loras looks him in the eye for a second, thinking. He makes a decision and begins. "The King of the Rock wanted the Ring. Father told him he could have it, if Lord Roxton agreed. to take suitable compensation. A pragmatic deal, but controversial. The King of the Rock has also shown his hand, it can be expected he intended to attack Roxton and the Ring, while we were at war. Father has gone to speak to him on this matter, before he heads south."

Controversial only began to describe the deal.

"So you've given them land that does not belong to your family and without telling Lord Roxton."

Was it worth it? Addam didn't know what to say. It freed the northern Lords to participate in the civil war yes, but the Ring was a millennial keep.

"I can see why you didn't want to tell me. This could severely hurt your father's position if it became public knowledge."

    Rowan paused.

"I am a man of honour though. I won't say anything of this to Manderly or Mern Gardener. I will however discuss it with both Lord Roxton and Lord Merryweather, fellow Lords of the North."

Loras looks at him quizzically. "My father should be speaking to Lord Roxton about it now. We have not given them the land, we have manged to get him to agree to waiting until the war is over, and we will try to buy the land from Roxton, even if it means conferring upon him the title and rights to our own home, Starpike. It is worth it, my lord. Ignore the civil war, even once this mess has cleared, Dorne the Stormlands and the Westerlands surround us. House Peake has taken a risk, it has braved the chance of a huge smear to its prestige, to make peace with one of our most dangerous foes. This peace will last, even when a new king is crowned. It secures one of our borders, and gives us more force with which to defend the Reach from Dorne and the Stormking."

"We've shown weakness, some would dare to say."

Is it a fair deal to lose a hand if it means you keep your arm? Addam didn't know. He needed to think

"Coming back to your offer. A marriage is tempting yes but it is not one of my priorities. Land on the other hand.."
