Default The Sermon on the Mount

William walked through the streets of Jerusalem in his pastoral robes and carrying his staff in his right hand. He intended to march to the mount where Jesus gave his sermon on the beatitudes, stand where he stood and speak where he spoke. You see this is his battlefield, his war for Christendom. William wouldn't bramble to march to war like his noble Christian brethren but his work his no less important, He must fight to convert and save the souls of all men. William stood on top of the mount awaiting the crowds to fill, he had hoped many would show and that they would be willing to embrace the Christian faith as the one and only religion

A decent crowd turn up, though not all of them look friendly. A fair number of native Levantines were among them, wearing the distinct dress of various Abrahamic faiths - Moslems, Jews, Coptic and Orthodox Christians... They were intrigued by this priest, but just as likely to pay heed to him as they are to throw rotten fruit, should he produce an ill-thought turn of phrase.

Slowly, almost as drawn by an unseen hand, people gathered, they were a mix and everyone, Christians, Muslims, Jews, Greeks...

As the Cardinal gazed out, he guessed the number to be near four thousand.

William looked upon the crowd as it began to swarm around him

Children of God, believers and non-believers alike hear me as I speak to you the words of God and stand where he stood roughly 1000 years ago. Jesus's sermon on the mount spoke of the beatitudes, and they are as follows

    1. beati pauperes spiritu quoniam ipsorum est regnum caelorum
    2.
beati mites quoniam ipsi possidebunt terram
    3.
beati qui lugent quoniam ipsi consolabuntur
    4.
beati qui esuriunt et sitiunt iustitiam quoniam ipsi saturabuntur
    5.
beati misericordes quia ipsi misericordiam consequentur
    6.
beati mundo corde quoniam ipsi Deum videbunt
    7.
beati pacifici quoniam filii Dei vocabuntur
    8.
beati qui persecutionem patiuntur propter iustitiam quoniam ipsorum est regnum caelorum
    9.
beati estis cum maledixerint vobis et persecuti vos fuerint et dixerint omne malum adversum vos mentientes propter me

William looking upon the crowd, he wished to interact with them hoping they were paying attention

Why did Jesus speak of the beatitudes? what was his intention, and what was the purpose?

OOC: you got a pretty bad roll lol (4)

Unfortunately for the Cardinal, most of the audience appears unable to understand anything he is saying. Some appear to nod at the mention of God and Jesus, but the use of Latin leaves most of them entirely perplexed. They begin to whisper among themselves in various languages; Greek, Hebrew, Arabic... Some of the crowd, predominantly of the Islamic faith, turn and depart.
