    Default The interrogation.

After a long march from the fields of Saruj the crusaders arrived home at Edessa. Upon their return home the prisoners of war were immediately jailed and were awaiting their judgement of the Countess. Three soldiers entered the cell of the the Muslim leader and took them to the throne of the Countess, the soldiers threw them him before the feet of the countess. The Muslim man was not an unknown man to the countess as it was him who led the negotiations on behalf of the remaining muslims in Saruj. Raising from the Royal throne she spoke with pity to the captured man.

    What is your name?

After saying that the Countess ordered the man to be unchained

The muslim felt his wrists after the chains were removed before looking up at the Countess, sitting on a throne like she was some sort of royalty, and not just a mere Ataberg.

"My name is Ari Batuk of Edessa" He almost spat out the last word.

Looking quite surprised by the word of ''Edessa'' the countess ordered the guards to leave the room but stay behind the door for safety.

'Edessa'. I did not know you're from Edessa.

On a more serious tone she almost smiled

But was it not you and your friends who sacked Edessa?, your birthplace?
Nevermind, that lies in the past, do you desire to return to your home in peace? Do you desire that?

"I don't have a home any longer... And that is because of you.." He pointed his finger accusingly at the Countess... "You and your so called 'Holy War' bah, no loving God would condone such behavior"

He paused slightly, his eyes watering a bit.

"We fled, ahead of your marauding armies, though my parents, too old to travel, had to remain, only Alah knows if they survived your vile soldiers" He remembered trying to find his parents when the Aleppo forces sacked the city a few weeks before.

Ari wondered if the girl was slightly slow, she mentioned sacking and what not, had she truly forgotten the 'first crusade' only a few years earlier, had she truly forgotten who had sacked, raped and murdered who? Had she forgotten that she herself and bloodily carved out her own realm, pried only from the dead cold hands of the innocent.

He shook his head slowly in wonderment, when his brothers and himself were in Edessa, they only sacked the Christians, the foreigners, the vile parasites who had cursed this land. In hindsight he regretted his recent actions (in Edessian Sacking) but he knew that Alah would surely forgive him and his brothers for the small and passing revenge they took.

The countess laughed at the remarks of the man and spoke in understandable latin against the man ''Oh, this man is a real slow one, yes?, do i have to remind you who invaded Christian lands a hundreds years ago?, those invasions that killed many innocent by the invading Arabs from their deserts? He's probably uneducated to understand history.

Stepping slowly from the small stair beneath the throne she would stand right before the Muslim.

''I see you lack the manners of a Gentleman, but never mind , you talk of parents, you know i have the power to search for them and find them, i can reunite but this will come at a small cost. I will reunite you with your parents if you provide me with information, provide me information and i shall reunite your family and i shall be generous to your jailed prisoners.''

The man that sits before the countess didn't show any signs of cultivation but she wondered if she could educate him into a gentleman.

The man was shocked, she spoke of the wars against the Romans, ended in this part of the world hundreds of years ago, generations of difference to now, and against completely different people and cultures... When had the people of Edessa/Aleppo and the like ever attacked Catholics directly, when had they invaded Italy?

But it was pointless, this girl considered herself above him, more refined, despite the copious amount of innocent blood on her hands, if this is what western civilization was, he wanted none of it.

"Your offer is redundant, my parents are dead, no doubt slaughtered by your 'Holy Warriors', being elderly they must have posed a great threat to your barbaric take over" He said in mock sarcasm.

"Did you not think I searched for them when I was here a two weeks ago?"

    Moderation:

With those words spoken the countess gave the man an angry smack in his face, tired of the insults she endured from this man she ordered the guards to chain him again.

I'm tired of your insults, if you do not submit peacefully then it shall be done the hard way.

Coming closer to the chained man the countess took a knife that was hidden in her clothes and put it on the man's chest while the guards held the man firmly under control.

What makes me stop from killing you?, i have endured insult after insult from you, but you're too valuable to lose now. You shall give me the information that i need, no matter what the cost The man was put on his knees by the guards.
Finally this man knows his place, on his knees before the countess'' The man was led to the prisons of Edessa and is being subject to torture, the countess ordered the guards to receive information about why the bulk of the invading forces withdrew from the Edessan lands, who their leader is and information about the situation in Aleppo.

The torture of the prisoners went long and hard over several days... The cries of horrific pain and suffering seemed to radiate out from the prisons...

On a still day with a calm breeze the people of Edessa thought they could hear them, like whispers from Hell...

The Countess was sitting on her throne when the man in charge of the extractions came forward with his report...

"My lady, after trying all our techniques, we have managed to gather the following information, it seems the prisoners are of a low rank that they unfortunately do not know all the information you require, or perhaps they are immune to torture though I doubt that" With that said he listed out what the had discovered.

    - The did not know the reason why the main force left Edessa, except that it was a sudden move bringing the sacking of Edessa to a close. The army went south east, not directly back to Aleppo.
    - The leader of the campaign was the Emir of Aleppo's 4th son, Faruk, a militant man of 32.
    - The army that broke off south east numbered between five thousand and seven and a half thousand. The orders couldn't have been troublesome enough to warrant the entire army, hence the four thousand left to stall and raid Edessa.
    - The original army was gathered in the field, so what little information regarding Aleppo itself, was small and surely outdated. It was mentioned that Aleppo was a strong and powerful realm, the strongest in the region.
