Icon5 Can't change the variantmeshdefinitions of marines?

I tried to edit the byzantine marine/ byzantine heavy elite marines, and the game didn't recognize my variantmeshdefinitions and loaded vanilla ugly as balls CA variantmeshdefinitions. It's kind of annoying because my ERE campaign has an amazing navy which I often use to attack ports, and the marines look garbage, not even having shield patterns. Did they just get an intern to do all the inconsequential vmds?

Am I missing something? I edited the vmd same as I would any unit, I've reskinned the Hetareia Guard for example to not look so chicken . Now they have mail facemasks lamellar mail and fur mantles. That worked fine, but the marines didn't. Haven't tried to edit other marines in other factions, so maybe it's ERE only.. or maybe i've really goofed somewhere. But i've tested it and checked it like 6 times and I don't know what's up. Could it be a load-order issue with radious? I wasn't aware that it changed those skins, if so how do I make my skins work? There are skinpacks with radious compatibility
