I'm thinking about buying Attila with some DLC's (but not all of them). Maybe Charlemagne took away my reluctance about the game...
But the important question is: Which one do you think is the wors...eerrr... least-recommended DLC??
Age of Charlemagne
Last Roman
Empires of Sand
Longbears
Celts
Viking Forefathers

Viking forefathers, hands down the dumbest thing I have ever heard and the cheapest cash in ever.
Not to mention how actually stupid it is, when you get Age Of Charlemagne and it is well known that at the end of Charlemagne's reign Norsemen started to intensify raids.
Vikings are the worst, i played with Jutes for a bit and its just boring their roster is bad as well (Jutes have huscarls which are good but thats all), the Longbeards DLC has at least some good narrative behind which (if u follow it) takes you on that tribe journey.
Celts would be second, so yeah pretty bad; their roster despite some good looking units just sucks.

War is Hell, and I'm the Devil!
I only have the Viking forefather's DLC and I can tell you that after 7 campaigns played in Attila, the Jutes' was the most boring one. I will buy Charlemagne because looks great, and I think I will wait until the 75% sales to buy the rest, or when I will have no more factions to play with, or if multi Attila becomes hyped. I've heard that the last roman is fun but only if you play as Rome so for me it does not worth it.
Only get viking, longbeards, celts, empire of the sands if you plan to play as any of those factions.
Of those, vikings/longbeards offer the less original content, the others like the celts are unique. You can already play germans and saxons (norse).
The mini campaigns are worth it if you plan to play them, if you prefer to stick to grand campaign, then theyīre obviously worthless - as sadly they donīt improve grand campaign.
It really depends entirely on your preferences.
Empires of Sand may add more new units and diverse factions than the other DLCs, but how is this relevant if you just don't care about desert peoples?
Conversely the Viking Forefathers may just be slightly modified Saxons, but if you have a soft spot for Northern Germanic peoples it could be better for you than Empires of Sand.
If you want diversity and plan on playing as many different cultures as you can then yeah, the basic Saxons are propably enough northern Germanic sea raiders for you, no need to get more.
Viking Forefathers is actually extremely underrated if you ask me. I didn't expect to like it as much as I did.
While they only have a slightly altered Saxon roster, their faction traits and unique units really make a difference.
The Danes can wreck enemy fleets with their transport ships and have quite a challenging starting situation with two enemies on the southern Baltic Coast, forcing you to delay the consolidation of Scandza.
The Geats with their snow bonus can win battles in the early game other Nordic faction can not (considering how low the morale of the low-tier Nordic units is, it is a huge boost) and can consolidate Scandza faster than the other two factions because they start out stronger.
The Jutes play differently because their Huscarls allow them to skip the military research tree completely in the beginning of the game. Just rush for the Sacred King tech, build a Warlord's Hold and spam Huscarls with Hirdmen - no army in the early game is a match for you.
I had more fun with the Viking Forefathers than with the Longbeards or the Celts. And I couldn't bring myself to play a desert faction for more than 5 turns so far.
And while I usually hate that "depends on your preference" response because that is not the answer people are looking for when they ask such questions in a forum, it is propably true for Total War games more than for any other game out there.
Some people want a Slavic culture pack (myself included) while others would prefer Armenia. Just a personal preference.
I haven't voted so far but no. Many things can be judged objectively (more than most people think at least) but Total War faction packs are not one of them. Maybe one can be considered bad if it just includes carbon copy factions that offer no unique playstyle, but that isn't really the case with the Viking Forefathers (at least not as much as people make it out to be). They keep the distinct northern/coastal Germanic feel of the Saxons and give it their own twist. As I said, I was positively surprised by the DLC, but it depends entirely on personal preference.
Longbeards is good, Empires of sand is a must (IMHO),really fun gameplay, between Vikings and Celts Iīd probably say celts is a bit better, but only because they have some interesting raiding mechanics on the campaign map. About Justinian Iīve heard good things about it, so if they price is not too high, why not? Charlemagne, no one can tell you how it is, it hasnīt been released yet, so I dunno...maybe wait until christmas for this one?
Vikings were a cheap cash-grab, shame on whoever voted for Empires of Sand, easily on of the best Total War DLCs yet.
The Viking forefathers might be the most stupid DLC concept, but the Celt DLC is easily the worst in practice. Not that the Celtic factions are supposed to be any good historically but they are terrible in multiplayer and half of their units are women (even the unit cards!) In the Vikings DLC the Geats and Danes are awful but the Jutes are one of my favorite factions in the game. I played the Celts upon their release and never found a reason to play with them again.

As of right now, Longbeards.
I actually had a lot of fun as the Geats and their faction plays out until it got boring being too large. Otherwise I don't really like the Longbeards unit rosters.

Viking Forefathers for sure. Nothing special whatsoever, regardless of the fans giving it accolades when CA first announced it. Not much special units, no special wonders, ect ect.
I'm just not interested in any of the desert factions, so I wouldn't buy EoS.
I remember seeing the VIKINGS! trailer, especially the part with the dude throwing the Roman guy on the ground and punching him...in the face. Even then I had a bad feeling how CA would approach this game![]()

Viking Forefathers hands down. Not only not adding much, being mostly for "the badass factor" and unisnpiring but it also is tainted with the preorder mark.
