    Default DeI vs FotE

    Hi Everyone,

I've just had a sudden urge to play either rome 2 or attila again. I haven't played either DeI or FotE in a long time, I always remember the Attila AI being absolutely awful...and stormtrooper-like huns which burn the whole of Europe just ruining the campaign.

For anyone that has played both DeI in Rome 2 and FotE in Attila, which would you recommend out of the two for a compaign? I understand DeI has a lot more content, but how would you compare the campaign AI between DeI in Rome 2 and FotE in Attila?

    Cheers

Being the DEI forums I would imagine the response would be........DEI.

DeI due to it being far more complete than FotE, which is still in development mainly.

Gyahahaha who the hell put polling like that , its completely nonsense at all, since FOTE itself dont have any Campaign AI part inside it, considering last time i check FOTE was still underdevelopment which they primary focus was BAI and new Custom Units. So the answer itself was pure FOTE meaning campaign AI using Default Vanilla Attila setting.

Anyways people simply cant made comparison how CAI for Attila and Rome 2, since its different engine all together. Not to mention the game itself was being patch only couple time.In the paper Attila CAI should beat Rome 2 , but in reality "Rome 2 CAI" was more stable then Attilla thanks for 17 patch. But i think they was equal for now, in the future with more patch and more polish sure ATTILA engine proved to be better overall.

I am pretty sure the OP dont realize it. Buts its okay everyone can make terrible mistake

I'm obligated to say nothing. But I am certainly thinking things very loudly!

As for atilla, i'd say wait another year for major mods to become much more fleshed out.

Rome 2 and Atilla using the same engine and share many mechanics, maybe Atilla will be more finetuned at some point in the future, but the CAI in Rome 2 can be a good challenge if you use the right mods
The Team of Ancient Empires is working on a ancient timeframe Atilla mod, this guys have very nice ideas and enough power to create a really impressive mod - all you need is time.

Or you try our latest release - we've also tinkered some magic stuff, thanks to Litharion and Dresden

FotE has very few campaign changes if any, as many have noted. It is almost entirely a battle/unit mod right now. DeI has some of the most extensive campaign changes for any mod (not necessarily CAI, but campaign in general) with supply, reforms, recruitment, cultures, etc. It really is like comparing apples to elephants.

Having said that, if you want to try Attila due to some of its new campaign mechanics, there are plenty of great mods out there. FotE may be unfinished but it is still very playable/enjoyable if you wanted to give it a shot.

I think it mainly comes down to which time period you enjoy better... Not played enough Attila myself to know about the CAI though. For me the time period and units are just meh, when compared to history of classical antiquity. Mind you I do love Saxons and Vikings etc but not so much as a total war game. After Romans, the next best TW setting is medieval IMO, bands of dark age brigands is not large scale enough for me!
