Default Early vs Late campaign - what is the difference ?

What is the main difference between early and late campaign ?
If I set early - does ir stop my campaign on 12th century ?

I know that this is perhaps very basic question but I cannot find answer anywhere.
    Thanks

The early era campaign starts at 1100 and ends on 1550 while the late era campaign starts at 1220 and ends at 1620.

In the early era campaign factions have lesser settlements and they are very small in population and underdeveloped and you will have a very small roster of units to compose your troops of (mostly spear militia) until the end of the 12th/ start of 13th century while in the late era campaign factions are bigger their settlements are more developped (with very few rebel cities on the map) and you have a wider variety of troops to compose your armies from.

in general the early era campaign is fun if you like developping your faction and dont mind running around with stacks of spear militia for the first 100 turns or so where the late era campaign has factions further developped so you have to start a war to expand and you will have access to a bigger variety of troops making combat way more interesting than the early era campaign.

I suppose it is not possible for future mod development to combine all two periods into one ?

There is no future mod development on SS7.0 right now. Try SSHIP or Titanium
