How to Fix Random CTD
Hi all,
I recently started playing medieval 2 again. So I downloaded SS mod and I immediately ran into problems. Unfortunately, I found it very difficult to locate all the relevant information to solve my random CTD. However, after few searches, I was able to stabilize the game. So, I decided to post the steps that I did in order to make it easier for returning players and new players to enjoy this amazing mod. So, if you are still experiencing RANDOM CTD, please follow the steps in their order:
- Disable UAC: Follow the instructions outlined in the linked page.
- Download SS 6.3 and SS 6.4: I recommend that you download utorrent and use it to download the mod.
- Install SS 6.3: In order to install, you need to download and install win rar. Once installed, right click on one of the SS 6.3 files and click extract to.
- Install 6.4: Download the update and apply it to your SS 6.3 mod folder.
- Install SS 6.4 Bugfix compilation: Download the file, and use win rar to extract. Then, copy paste into the SS mod folder.
- Right click on the SS shortcut and select run as administrator.
- Run the mod.
- Play through a campaign. If there are no crashes then you are good to go. If you experience any crashes, then proceed to the next step.
- Go to the video settings and select low.
- Click on the advanced options and set the resolution to your default monitor resolution.
- Modify the game settings to “follow ai”.
- Continue the campaign, hit the [~] key on your keyboard to open the console. Type “toggle_fow” then hit [Enter] on your keyboard. Then click [Esc] key.
- Click next turn. Do not rush/ skip both of your movements are the AI. Just leave the game process it at normal speed.
- If the game doesn’t crash, click the [~] key again and type “toggle_fow”, then hit [Enter] then [Esc] to close the console.
- Click next turn again. If there is no crash, then you’re good to go. If your game keeps crashing, then please post below or to the appropriate threads.
