    Default Diplomacy questions...

As I understand it, there is not much that can be added to diplomacy, correct?

    1) Giving/demanding regions? (This I have heard can't change, using as an example of what has been stated can't be done.)

    2) What about changing how enemies/allies view you in diplomacy? I understand the whole slavery and release options. These give +/- depending the side. How about neutrals? I would think that if you kill the entire population too many times, that the neutral countries would kind of look at you sideways.

    3) Last, I noticed that sometimes when a country gets taken over and either liberated or a client states, then that country makes peace with everyone. Can we make this happen every time? Seems odd that if you are fighting a country and they become your client state and all you allies are still at war with that country, they resent you.

I understand that Client states can attack each other, thats realism. Maybe your allies don't stop fighting but a large percentage chance that they would. But ALL Client States should immediate desist. When I talk to a Client State, I have three options, yet my Client States have military access, Non aggression pacts, and Alliances with other countries. Shouldn't their diplomacy mirror yours for the most part.

That country is now part of yours. Your allies should treat it as such. If they attack it a few turns later, you must now defend your client state. Their diplomacy should kinda start fresh (ish). They should end all wars (except those you are still at war with) immediately. Sure they won't like each other, but the AI needs a way of knowing that they will be effectively declaring war on you. Like a Allied Overlord Protection bonus of +50 or something. Just a quick idea, I'm sure you would have others.

Hope I explained this correct. Only had a minute.

    Thanks DEI team.

I'd like to know what the differences are between 'client states' and 'satrapies'. As Carthage, both options are available to me!

In Vanilla (not sure on DEI) Satrapies worked better. I don't believe they can declare war on people you don't want them to.

Maybe Client States give more money, but more political freedom. So far, I haven't got any of my Client States to even trade with me. Doesn't seem worth it but I do it for realism and immersion.

Some have stated that Satrapies don't have the choice to declare war with you and make peace at the same time as you, but Client States have the right to choose. Choose Satrapy. I will let the staff fill in my holes. I don't play alot of Eastern Factions so Client State is usually the only option I see. There used to be a submod that allowed everyone to create Satrapies.

You must be using an "all diplomatic options" mod or something. In the main DeI mod, a faction can only create one or the other.

Client states act as defensive allies, and also pay you tribute each turn.

Satrapies also pay tribute - I think the same amount, but they cannot take any diplomatic actions except making trade agreements. So satrapies will always join your wars, whether you want them to or not (unless they decide to rebel against you). They also can't declare war by themselves, so your satrapies won't be able to fight each other unless one decides to rebel. This avoids the situation with client states where one can declare war on another.

Thank you for the break down. Is there a DEI compatible submod that makes Client States act as Satrapies ?

Thankyou! In response to your first sentence, I am indeed using Dresden's "sack, liberate and all diplomatic options submod".

Hmmm... I'm not sure. There's definitely one that makes both options available to all factions, but I don't know if there's one that makes them all satrapies.
