Default A little modelling help, please.

Okay, guys. Go easy on me here. Newbe alert!

I've got Max 6, I've got the Max6 Bible and reading it like the other Bible, I'm reading tutorials, I'm going to download Professor's videos when I can spare enough time. I trying to learn it without whining...but I need a little help.

I'm trying to get the head off one model to attach to another. But I must be doing something wrong, because whatever I try, I end up importing the whole bone structure with it. Is there anyone who can give me the quick-step version on how to sever and link body parts? Or, failing that, point me to a tutorial that shows how to?

I've tried removing the heads by selecting all the vertices, hitting "unlink" and saving it and merging it into my model, but I get the aforementioned problem. I've removed the bone structure and tried it; I've deleted everything but the head and tried it... What am I doing wrong? It's easy enough with weapons and shields.

Also, does RTW work with "editable poly" models? The models load up as "editable mesh", but I've read a few tutorials that sound like they're using polys.

Okay, got it to paste the model pieces together, thanks to professor420's handy tutorial (i had forgotten about the skin modifiers, duh!), and now I have a problem with the vertices.

Interesting. Max says a problem with vertix 532 and that I need a weight of 1.0 per vertix, yet according to the weight table I already have it. Divided as 0.213 and 0.787 between the right thigh bone and right lower leg bone, which are not imported body parts.

Anyone got an answer to this, or know where there is one? Do I have to redo all vertices?

No, just the ones from the head. The weights must not be divided, you can only have 1.0 per one bone. And make sure you make everything Rigid. (Select everything from the table and check the "Rigid" column). Hope this helps.

Moved to Skins, Models and Animations forum. Please do not post questions about modding in the tutorials section, as it is only for tutorials.

Ok, first off, yes you convert your model to an editable poly (right click convert..ect)

then select the polys that make up the head, go to the control panel on the right and detach, in the pop up box name it my head...

use the move tool to move it up out of the way, then deleate everything else.

    save the scene as....whatever.

open the model you want to put your head on and repeat the process, this time delete the head.

now goto files, merge, from the pop up select the head only scene, next pop up select 'my head' ... next pop up..use scene material... then the head should be there.
