Well to be honest, I have tried to ransom in hotseats before, and it never works, because the enemy always rejects and you execute them, which is what I expected. But it is news to me that it's illegal.

It's definitely very uncool, non-fair play to take a ransom knowing that you will put the remaining force to the sword anyway (after a siege). It's just general, good sense not to do that.

I do not see it that way. It is a legitimate option that was implemented into the game. If it's in the game, it's meant to be used. However, if admins forbid it, I will of course respect the rules.

This is forbidden because the game takes the money from the faction's treasury. Would you ransom a bunch of soldiers, if they are gonna die most likely in the next turn? You effectievly took away the money from the enemy, who in his turn maybe can't build forts, because the game took money from him, money he didn't agreed on!
This is why ransoming is considered banned in almost every hotseat.

Yeah but when I ransom, it always executes them anyways. And if it does in case accept the ransom, I just reload. I get your point, it's pretty mean if people do that.
