Default I Despise Civil Wars (Mod them out?)

I wasn't sure how the updated civil war mechanics would translate into DeI, so now that I know you guys have adopted the vanilla civil war update, I'm pretty disappointed. It's the single most game-breaking mechanic and it ruins the entire game for me. Before, i could just trigger a civil war with my armies spread out and then take my stuff back. Annoying, broken, completely asinine implementation, the worst civil war mechanic ever seen in video game history, but at least manageable. Not anymore. The entire mechanic is terrible and nothing but a turn-off, and now there is no official escape from this nonsense. Keep your influence balanced, get crappy imperium benefits, and then eventually get a civil war anyway, or keep your influence high, get a bunch of benefits, and still have to deal with repeated civil wars. I play really slow games, meaning I turtle and expand slowly, so there is a LOT of idle turn-passing going on. Like, I'll have 5 provinces at turn 200 with all maxed buildings and a gigantic economy, because that's how I like to play, but with a civil war chance every damn turn it's just not viable to end so many turns idle, I feel like I'm forced to rush the campaign objectives with as few civil wars as possible, like some sort of horrible time limit, instead of just expanding my empire in a sandbox mindset.

In other total war games, I'd stop playing a campaign when I won. In Rome 2, I stop playing when a civil war happens. Campaign over, next faction. It's that awful.

    TL;DR
So, now that I've made my feelings clear on how much I despise this mechanic, I have a question to ask: are there any mods that are compatible with current DeI 1.1 saves that disable civil war? Or, is there at least a mod that changes it for new campaigns? If not I'm probably going to abandon yet another campaign, I don't care if the politics are trivialized because they're the worst politics in any total war game to date. Rather have no politics than broken politics.

There was a submod somewhere that disables civil wars I think, but it's probably not updated. We might try to rework the politics somewhat for the main mod in 1.2 though.

Thank you for the quick response. Just as a suggestion, there has to be an avenue to avoid them completely, the concept of always having a small chance no matter what is annoying. If that's not possible, then let me have my ONE civil war, and then disable the mechanic after that, like how it was at launch.

I mean, I structured my entire campaign around ending an early civil war and then the actual game starts. Now you get a civil war chance the same damn turn you end it, so there is a possibility of getting repeated civil wars, one after another, meaning there is virtually no reason to ever go for high imperium. That is far too high a price to pay, there is no universe where any benefit is worth unending, repeating civil wars.

Hey so sorry for the premature thread, it turns out the mod on the workshop titled "No Civil War Emperor Edition" seems to work with the latest version of DeI, but I'm glad you're looking into changing it in future updates.

I'm not sure what will be the results of using this mod with DEI, so you can mod it easily yourself
    just do this:

Use Pack File Manager to open the mod, go to db -> campaign_variables, and open the table...
Go to "Civil_war_low_chance_fame_level" and set it to any number above 100, then do the same for "civil_war_medium_chance_fame_level" and "Civil_war_high_chance_fame_level."
Those numbers determine when you can have a civil war and what your chance level is.

    Cheers

The current political system in the game actually is fairly easy to manipulate to avoid civil wars. If you take care of your influence in the early game, it slowly becomes progressively harder to get to the point where you will trigger a civil war. I actually think that is somewhat sad, considering the mechanic is rarely seen by most players.

Maybe a submod, civil wars were a great asset for that game. Forget it.

It almost seems like it is literally impossible for a civil war to happen in my game. Just to see if it would work, (saved my game before doing this) I assasinated almost everyone, and my family influence dropped off to 0%, and then I ended the turn several times. The civil war probability bar didn't change whatsoever. Anything I can do about this? I am playing as Rome, and while I don't necessarily want to start an artificial civil war, the probability of one happening seems very unlikely.

I agree. Even doing nothing to stop it, I can't start a civil war. But I'm sure it's there and can be started. I suppose that my leaders accumulate many gravitas points after winning (a lot of) battles.

Yeah, like I said above. If you properly handle influence early there is a snowball effect into the late game where it becomes almost impossible to screw things up. I think that they way they changed the mechanic for civil wars somehow affects this. Its like the gravitas per turn for your party adds up over time to the point where it is unlikely to sway harshly in one direction.

I am hoping that we can come up with a much more interesting and fluid system for 1.2.

True. Let civil wars there. Removing it, it's like cheating history. Never had a single one.

That would be cool. I know there is the Imperator Augustus campaign for the Roman Civil War fix, but I really want to experience it in the grand campaign. I haven't had a civil war since before the Imperial Edition civil war change.

Is there anything I can change in the db that would make civil wars likely to happen in DEI?

That didn't really work for me though.

That is how you change it to never have civil wars.

To increase the likelihood, you can go to the same table and lower the imperium level (fame) that they can start at, or increase the various chances.

Hope this is something you guys give attention to in 1.2. Maybe even make the mechanic different than the vanilla game; something more epic even! I just got done watching Rome, and I think it would be cool to see something on that scale with civil wars. I know there is Imperator Augustus, but it's not as dramatic as having a civil war play out with characters and armies that you are attached to.
