    Default Any chance for optimization?

Loving DEI ever since, but since 1.1 I have terrible lagging, making it almost impossible to play battles manually. Obviously I don't have high-end comp (i5 wit 8 GB RAM and GeForce GTX 660), but there was no problem playing vanilla or even pre-1.1 DEI on ultra or extreme settings (even GeForce optimization tool sets them automatically to extreme). Now the troops are simply crawling through the terrain, any try to zoom almost stalls everything even more, even the sound plays not like it should. Is there any chance to optimize DEI somehow or any trick I can apply myself to counter this?

    Lower your settings.

Did that obviously. Even on just high (with vegetation, DoF etc. turned off) it's still the same, especially when the battle take place in the town or there are more armies involved. It's really hard to believe for me such enormous difference between previous DEI versions and a current one.

Which is odd since we havent really added anything which should make battles slower. We even optimized the load time between battles and the campaign map.
I know stuff like and I believe its called, Vegetation Alpha or something like that, and Particle effects can really pressure your system especially in large battles. So try setting these to low or medium.
If I set it to choose automatically it will set all settings to Very High but as it is with you, large battles will lag.
Therefore its only things like Unit details and Textures I have set to Very High. The others are at medium or low.

Yes, unless you play as new nations and you have problems with FPS, then there must be something on your end as nothing was changed in those stuff for 1.1. Could you post screenshot of your graphic settings and what other mods you use?

My setting is a bit faster, but very similiar and you can't play with everything on high. Just not possible.

However sound issues...and stuff like that. Start by updating your drivers and upgrading to Windows 8.1 or 10.

I have to agree. I usually play on Ultra settings, but this week I have lowered to High, then to Medium already. Not sure if that is helping. Runs slower and crashes more often.

Not all complaints! I wouldn't play Rome 2 without DEI so I take it with a grain of salt. I love DEI!! Just wanted to put my hat in the ring that the lagging has increased. Still very playable and battle lags occasionally but not all the time for me. Not sure what could be done, as yall are the experts. I can't think of anything I would remove!!! Thanks again.

There was a post where Dresden said that lowering some settings below very high would impair performance as your computer would use the cpu instead of the graphics card or something like that. He also said what settings you should have on water sky etc for optimum performance. Don't remember the link though. Maybe someone can post it here.

Considering the amount of stuff we have added to the game including optimized unit textures and a bunch of new units its not a surprise that the game will run slower at higher settings.

Since 1.1 I have had consistently better performance than 1.0, especially in battles. What is your rig?

This was actually from another user a long time ago, but its in the FAQ:
Seems like there are several graphics option that will use GPU power instead of
CPU power if you set those options ABOVE "high" (very high to extreme) and thereby
reducing CPU burden and in return give you more fps.

Here are the 4 options that I mentioned above :

    1. Shadow : set it on "Very High-Extreme" (put it above "high" so it will processed by
    GPU instead of CPU)
    2. Particle : set it on "Very High-Extreme" (same like above)
    3. Unit Detail : set it on "Very High-Extreme" (same like above)
    4. Building Detail : set it on "Very High-Extreme" (same like above)

Note : the most important thing here is you have to set those 4 options ABOVE "High" !

And here are several options that I recommend you all to be set like this :
    1. Terrain : set it to either Low or Medium
    2. Grass : set it to either Low or Medium
    3. Trees : set it to either Low or Medium
    4. Water : set it to Low - High
    5. Distortion Effect and SSAO : should be unchecked (but still optional,
if you have good GPU it might be not a big performance hit)

Note : those 3 settings are really CPU heavy burden alongside Unit Size !
