Name: Serafino d'Argenta
Titles: Barone di Giarbola (Jarabulus) e Saruia (Saruj)
Age: 35 (born 1065 AD)
Marital Status: Single
Born in Argenta, a town outside of Ravenna, Romagna, the noble grew up under rule of Matilda of Tuscany, known as la Gran Contessa. With the Investiture Controversy seeing its inception with the fight between Emperor Henry IV and Pope Gregory VII, the Argenta family stood loyal behind their liege lady. Serafino himself got his trial by fire in 1080 AD, when the emperor defeated those loyal to the pope at the Battle of Volta Mantovana. The war continued and he got much battlefield experience, with the Italians being victorious against Imperial forces in the 1090's.
Yet when Pope Urban II called for a crusade to the Holy Land, Serafino jumped at the opportunity to save the most holy of Christendom. Gathering fellow countrymen to his cause, they set out to Constantinople where they joined up with the rest of the crusaders. The following years on campaign took their toll, but the Italian kept on going.
As the crusaders drew close to the Levant, D'Argento broke off and joined Annalisa Borgia as she went north to carve out her own domain around Edessa. For his loyal service, he was made a baron and given the holdings of Jarabulus and Saruj. |
