Default Need help with fighting the Mongols

Anyone out there think that the Mongols are a bit overpowered in the campaign? i dont mean as far as unit stats, but as in the fact that they spawn something like 6 full stacks with none of their units having any upkeep! has anyone been able to beat them? how so? i have 2 campaigns going, one as the turks and one as the HRE, and im having trouble with them in both campaigns.

I fought a war of attrition. Had some calvary. Light calvary lure away the mogol cav and then hit their weaker units with my heavy cav. Doesn't always work but its makes them weaker and buys me a few extra turns to build up a large army. The alturnitive is to lead them to another country and let them deal with it.

Just how would i lead them to another land when they have already decided to settle in mine? i gombled on that they would just pass through, but they didnt, seizing antioch in my Turkey campaign.

Just a tip, never go on crusade for the holy land when it is in the hands of the Mongols.

They seriously have unlimited numbers of great cavalry and great foot archer/swordsmen that they can send at you constantly. I took a fortress, a citadel, and my crusade objective of Antioch, after fighting several massive battles with Mongol armies. But they kept on coming, and it doesn't help that i'm the whole world away from my capital (Portugal) and nobody there has my religion. I have to keep taxes on low and keep

On top of that, the plague hit while I was trying to fend off all these things, and reduced my income to negative for several turns, so I couldn't even afford to replace my massive losses.

I still hold Antioch (huge city, I can barely keep control of it) and some pretty well upgraded fortress. But Antioch doesn't have great militia barracks, so I can only make a few new units per turn, and the fortress is making good units, but it still has the freaking plague, so I lose 10% of all my units in there per turn, and I can't use them to garrison Antioch because if it got the plague it would revolt. Now I'm under siege and I don't think I can fend it off, and even if I do I won't be able to maintain control with the garrison I will have left.

I think I might just blow up all the buildings in those cities and get the hell out of there.

Try positioning your army so your back is filled with mountains, making it impossible for them to strike you from all directions. Use tons of good foot archers, seek a higher altitude. Position Spearmen in the fronts. Use cannons if you can and let them come. Use "fast moving" cavalry to chase down routers. If you see lonely generals on the campaign map, get 2 heavy cavalry units and kill them yourself.

If you defend a city try placing spearmen units to block the streets and again tons of archers behind them. Don't bother with fighting on the walls if they bombard. Just pull back and defend the region around the square. Try blocking them from BOTH ways once they are crowding your streets. Put your experienced archer units in "flame arrows" mode, not the others.
