Hey Litharion, apparently the supply system isn't important.
Weird about the complaint on the lack of Macedonian armies though. They start with 8 field armies, and are generally active at land and sea in my several roman campaigns in the Macedonian wars.
It's an awesome concept and game-mechanic, it just has no noticeably impact mid to late game once you get rolling with your economy and conquests. The same can be said for most things and probably impossible to balance for.
Have a hardcore option for the player with attrition no matter what you do, just less with better supplies. Maybe a "decimation event"-popup for armies that starve one turn, insane costs and the army going rebel on the second. No movement points when out of food, an army marching on it's stomach and all that. Just way more brutal over all, punish me! *wiggles bottom*
Hm I think we have to acutally play it a bit more to tell that.
Supplys are never a problem in a region which has never encountered war or raiding.
The system really shines when there is constant war in a region. Making it hard to capture and hold a settlement which has been at constant war. Since there are not enough supplys left and not always having a solid supply line up makes things interesting. I think this is what Daren is missing in his vid, but probably due to a simple lack of playtime and not bad intention or bad understanding of the concept.
Till shade is gone,
till water is gone,
into the Shadow with the teeth bared,
screaming defiance with the last breath,
to spit into Sightblinder's eye on the Last Day
Quality stuff from Darren as always![]()
