Default Something That Has Bugged Me Since Rome...

There is a particular "feature" that has really gotten on my nerves since Rome: Total War and that is the "We're under attack!" cries from units. It is utterly ridiculous to here a unit under fire from missile units stand there and cry out "We're under attack! They're attacking us! We're under attack!" over and over again.

Is there some way to remove this from the game? Perhaps mod it out? I'm surprised that I have never seen anyone else mention it.

I think They say that so you hear them and know that they are under attack by missile troops, it actually helped me alot, even though it is annoying..

I dont think there is any way to remove it

A bit like a soccer goalie crying out "He's kicking at my goal! He's kicking at my goal" during a penalty shoot out.

Guaranteed it can be deleted from the sound files, but an expert should tell you exactly how. I wouldn't trust me.

    Why is it ridiculous?

And no..it's not like a goalie saying "He's kicking the ball at my goal" during a penalty kick...maybe if you each had one unit each and knew the enemies were archers...

yea, i dont think its bad, i dont hear it most of the times, and if i do, it actually helps, and i move my army away from archers, when i hear WE are under attack!

Whats annoying is that enemy german princess saying "Look but Dont touch Dunkoff!" lol

Never bothered me. At least the units don't sit down and tell us how they're feeling.

For those of you asking how it is ridiculous...

Why don't you try to visualize yourself on a battlefield, with arrows raining down upon you. Would you really feel the need to alert those around you that you were "under attack"?

EDIT: BTW, why do you have trouble telling if they're under missile fire or not? It shows an icon on their unit card if they are taking missile fire, something much more useful than some anonymous guy from down in your horde of troops crying to the heavens "WE'RE BEING ATTACKED".

You have a point. Probably proves to be helpful to people who cannot see the missiles flying through the air. I know RTW was like that, you basically see some shimmering in the sky. Still, good point.

See previous post concerning the "not noticing arrows" issue.

There is already a feature for this, a much more reasonable and helpful one.

Ah, edited that in after I posted.

I know I don't always keep my eyes on the unit cards. Especially if I'm off somewhere else, maneuvering cavalry for example, and the enemy decides it's time to skirmish.

Why do people in modern battle yell that they are taking fire or are under attack? I'm sure people would yell that they were under fire when arrows came raining down on them...what do you expect...should they just be silent unless they are hit, in that case they should scream in pain?

And yes, the unit card shows the missile icon, but I'm not always focusing on those. Tunnel vision when trying to get some other manuevers to work...but I dunno, I don't see anything wrong with them saying they're under attack.

I see good reason to take the sound out. Realistically you aren't going to yell out "We're under attack", and have you ever seen a movie where they actually do that? I haven't.
I have. I see it all the time in movies. I'm not sure what war movies you are watching...

Even if the guy next to me was blind and had a really bad case of tinnitus, I wouldn't be shouting that at him... I'd be shouting it to my General, who's at the far end of the field and has his visor down, reducing his peripheral vision to the dimensions of a slot loading CD drive.

You have any evidence to prove that this is what people did when getting shot at?

if an army's begin shot at its pretty obvious they aren't going to stand their silently without comment are they? You are simply looking for something to complain about. It adds a sense of urgency in the battle too. If you dont like it, don't play. easy.

What the hell? Stand there without comment? WHY WOULD YOU COMMENT? Much less intone the exact same thing that everyone else around you has already screamed 50 times in the same tone of voice!

And what do you mean "taking realism to new extremes"? I'm asking for a stupid, weird, read: USELESS feature to be REMOVED from the game! I'm asking not to be annoyed by something that I'm *trying* to enjoy.

    "STAND YOUR GROUND, MEN!"
    "M'Lord, arrows!"
    "Oh, Lord, not again..."
    "We're being attacked!"
    "We're under attack!"
    "We're being attacked!"
    "We're under attack!"
    "We're being attacked!"
    "We're under attack!"
    "We're being attacked!"
    "We're under attack!"
    "We're being attacked!"
    "We're being attacked!"
    "We're under attack!"
    "We're being attacked!"
    "We're under attack!"
    "We're being attacked!"
    "We're under attack!"
    "We're being attacked!"
    "We're under attack!"
    "We're being attacked!"

Wow, talk about taking realism to new extremes. Its a game play mechanic plain and simple. Your attention could be elsewhere and you aren't able to watch all your troops at the same time. Anyways, next thing you know you hear "we're under attack" this alerts you to the fact that your men are under attack and you can quickly organize a counter attack or move your men out of harms way. Without it you'd be complaining about the fact you keep losing units to archery fire because you aren't always aware they have come under attack.

ithout it you'd be complaining about the fact you keep losing units to archery fire because you aren't always aware they have come under attack.
Isn't there an icon for that though? Little red- arrow icon thingy. That's how you know. Plus you can kinda hear it really loudly when the arrows hit them. (and they scream too)

I'd say remove it - unnecessary feature.

You are simply looking for something to complain about. It adds a sense of urgency in the battle too. If you dont like it, don't play. easy.
Hey that was uncalled for. I'm not complaining, I was trying to find a way to improve the experience. I find that this feature is somewhat glitched, in that it loops over and over. Not that its a bug, I just think it either needs to be toned down or disabled entirely.

And also, Don't tell people to stop playing. I'd never stop playing a game just because of one minor thing.
