    Default Auxiliary Recruitments

I remember this being discussed before a very long time ago, but what is the stance on enabling aux units to be recruited outside of their home regions in exchange for longer recruitment times or increased costs? Biggest issue I could see would be possibly very significant increased loading speeds since this would likely result in quite a bit more calculations taking place. One potential work around for that would be to have aux units use the merc system - aux units are available as cheaper mercs if recruited outside of their home region or same price but extra turns to recruit based off of distance.

To give people who are not familiar with the backstory, Aux units were recruited in one province and had to be stationed in other provinces to prevent those aux units from being a danger to the empire.

    ~Wille
Thorolf was thus armed. Then Thorolf became so furious that he cast his shield on his back, and, grasping his halberd with both hands, bounded forward dealing cut and thrust on either side. Men sprang away from him both ways, but he slew many. Thus he cleared the way forward to earl Hring's standard, and then nothing could stop him. He slew the man who bore the earl's standard, and cut down the standard-pole. After that he lunged with his halberd at the earl's breast, driving it right through mail and body, so that it came out at the shoulders; and he lifted him up on the halberd over his head, and planted the butt-end in the ground. There on the weapon the earl breathed out his life in sight of all, both friends and foes. [...] 53, Egil's Saga
I must tell you here of some amusing tricks the Comte d'Eu played on us. I had made a sort of house for myself in which my knights and I used to eat, sitting so as to get the light from the door, which, as it happened, faced the Comte d'Eu's quarters. The count, who was a very ingenious fellow, had rigged up a miniature ballistic machine with which he could throw stones into my tent. He would watch us as we were having our meal, adjust his machine to suit the length of our table, and then let fly at us, breaking our pots and glasses.

Not necessarily. That was more of how the Romans dealed with migrating tribes. After the empire was established, legions really just used nearby aux units for border duty. However when going on campaign against the Parthians or Sassanids they would pool different aux units together. An exampled would be Caesar sending Crassus some Gallic cavalry for his Parthian expedition.

All that only matters for the first 25 or so years, after that units would (with exceptions like Syrians and Batavians) recruit locally so any old ties would be erased.

But it is not possible to increase recruitment time. Well it is, but the AI cannot handle it and it would mean that the Roman AI wouldnt build these troops.

Also bear in mind in current set up you have to conquer the region first before you can recruit the local auxiliaries. Taking over Britain and gaining access to Syrian archers for example does not make sense. I think different local auxiliaries makes things more interesting rather than having them all available at once in any place.

Thinking my point got missed -

Basically - If you own the region to produce aux Syrian archers and are able to recruit them in that region, then when you're raising an army in Britain you're able to recruit Syrian archers that cost X and take Y to simulate the travelling required to reach that new army.

That said, Flash answered the question on why this was dropped :p
