    Default Request: How to Slavery

    Hi guys.

Thought I would run this campaign with slavery, I build the slavery pens in a few cities and ran the 'sell slaves' edict wherever I could, however, I keep facing uprising after uprising who then wreak havoc in my towns, crushing my economy and then there are subsequent rebellions. Annoying.

My characters are mostly set up as capable bureaucrats and the like to reduce public disorder and empire maintenance but the problem still remains. Would really appreciate any help.

You need to tell us a lot more than that. If you use garrison armies in cities you will suffer a high negative penalty to public order.

Essentially slaves will become a problem if you don't manage your slave population appropriately. Since you cannot determine where slaves go when you enslave them, you have to manually look at your individual provinces to see if any are having slave issues before you even battle for that decision. I believe if you manually paid attention and kept track you could see where your slaves ended up funneling for the most part, but it's been so long since I've done testing on slaves I honestly am unsure if things changed.

My personal rule of thumb is I'll enslave until slaves hit -14 PO penalty in certain provinces and then I'll start killing or releasing to let the population die down.

That said, I'm also usually not upgrading much past level 2 buildings. A lot of my habits are rather old habits from DeI and vanilla many many patches ago, so the rationale behind them could very well have changed.

I think you need more mass murder in your life, my friend. ( out of context, that may sound horrible )

    ~Wille
Thorolf was thus armed. Then Thorolf became so furious that he cast his shield on his back, and, grasping his halberd with both hands, bounded forward dealing cut and thrust on either side. Men sprang away from him both ways, but he slew many. Thus he cleared the way forward to earl Hring's standard, and then nothing could stop him. He slew the man who bore the earl's standard, and cut down the standard-pole. After that he lunged with his halberd at the earl's breast, driving it right through mail and body, so that it came out at the shoulders; and he lifted him up on the halberd over his head, and planted the butt-end in the ground. There on the weapon the earl breathed out his life in sight of all, both friends and foes. [...] 53, Egil's Saga
I must tell you here of some amusing tricks the Comte d'Eu played on us. I had made a sort of house for myself in which my knights and I used to eat, sitting so as to get the light from the door, which, as it happened, faced the Comte d'Eu's quarters. The count, who was a very ingenious fellow, had rigged up a miniature ballistic machine with which he could throw stones into my tent. He would watch us as we were having our meal, adjust his machine to suit the length of our table, and then let fly at us, breaking our pots and glasses.

I usually just use the sell slaves edict whenever I have more than -1 PO from slaves, and I don't take slaves unless my PO is generally high to begin with.

But yeah, the relative benefits of slavery or mass murder...

I tend to min/max with governors and generals and PO buildings, allowing me to run a very high slave population. The boost to income they give is tremendous, and if it somehow gets out of hand, selling some always work.

As a rule of thumb i usually try to stick around to the 30% slave population number if it starts getting higher i'll start selling. Especially if i'm in a war getting more and more.

Same here. When I get to 30% I use the sell slaves edict until under 20%. Is anyone getting the 100% wealth increase while using the edict? I had heard it was going to be nerfed but I haven't seen ANY monetary reason to use the edict lately?
