Default My M2TW Class project (need some help)

Hello fellow fans of history and good strategy gaming.

I am working on a class project for a Medieval Culture focusing on Crusades. I am going to do a presentation on how gaming has evolved to become a useful (though limited) tool in providing some visual conceptualization for previously only textual and hard to imagine information. Gaming has evolved to become a good simulation of facts where it is useful as a teaching tool. Since we are learning about the crusades I will focus on the clash between the knights of the west and their more lightly armored foes from east.

I don't own any osprey books or any good illustrations that I could compare with the look of units in M2. If you could post some and what units they compare to.

Also, if you have some good account of battlefield tactics of these two armies and how they compare (or not) to tactics taken up by the AI from your own experience, I would really appreciate it. Or whether you feel that the units are historically balanced or not.

Anything that would enhance my crusade presentation is sincerely welcomed.

    Thank You.

Play the Historical battle against Saladin (cant' remember the name). I found the historical battles in RTW very historicly accurate, so it's probally the same with MTW 2.

Yes, I intend to showcase this. But once I get into the frey of battle and classmates watching on as I am puasing and ordering units around and a mass of armies duking it out, that's not educational, that's just me playing a game.

First I want to show clearly how such different armies would engage. Best to do that is use flat terrain, so this eliminates incentives that would drive any culture to behave the same way (take the favourable ground). I want to accentuate their real cultural behavior this way, but I will show Arsuf as well, because we did talk about it.

Now if anyone has pictures and sources, I would gladly accept them.

    Thanks

Perhaps you can do your battle in the comfort of your home and the save the replay, and showcase the replay at class either by using the game itself or using a video recording program like FRAPS and transferring it to the class computer, avoiding the hassle of bringing your own computer.

Also, if you want to demonstrate the large differences of combat styles the East and the West, there's no better way to demonstrate it than the heavily iron-clad warriors of Catholic Europe and the lightly armored cavalry-orientated (Horse Archers) armies of the East.

I haven't decided on the format. But how can you extract saved battles and play it on windows media?

Just film yourself some footage with Fraps and edit it with Windows Movie Maker. There's really no other option. I certainly hope you didn't plan to use a live copy of the game.
