Default So, how does the new character archetypes work?

First of all, congrats for the release! I'm excited most of all for the new traits system. What bothered me the most of Rome II was the lack of immersion due to the 3 traits per characters. I assume there are still 3 trait placeholders but each one now contains multiple traits leading to complex characters. Could somebody explain a little more about this system please? Or even better, point me to screenshots of fully fleshed characters in dei. Thanks!

Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

    ~Wille
Thorolf was thus armed. Then Thorolf became so furious that he cast his shield on his back, and, grasping his halberd with both hands, bounded forward dealing cut and thrust on either side. Men sprang away from him both ways, but he slew many. Thus he cleared the way forward to earl Hring's standard, and then nothing could stop him. He slew the man who bore the earl's standard, and cut down the standard-pole. After that he lunged with his halberd at the earl's breast, driving it right through mail and body, so that it came out at the shoulders; and he lifted him up on the halberd over his head, and planted the butt-end in the ground. There on the weapon the earl breathed out his life in sight of all, both friends and foes. [...] 53, Egil's Saga
I must tell you here of some amusing tricks the Comte d'Eu played on us. I had made a sort of house for myself in which my knights and I used to eat, sitting so as to get the light from the door, which, as it happened, faced the Comte d'Eu's quarters. The count, who was a very ingenious fellow, had rigged up a miniature ballistic machine with which he could throw stones into my tent. He would watch us as we were having our meal, adjust his machine to suit the length of our table, and then let fly at us, breaking our pots and glasses.

Thanks but those contain the character skills. I don't think the new trait system is explained there.

Oh ok, I think see what you mean now. You mean those, rather extensive, character descriptions? For example Circumspect (Mature), Magnanimous, Cheerful (Aged), etc.?

Yes, exactly! I wanted to know about the more complex personalities of the characters in dei? Is it just longer descriptions or do each one includes several subtraits?

A basic breakdown of the system is that every character gets assigned a group of personality aspects on a spectrum. These personality aspects get grouped together to form an archetype. The effects of each archetype are mainly based on the different aspects that make it up.

As the character ages, he/she has a chance to develop that trait into an aged and, eventually, matured version.

it's sort of explained here. Basically each character will gain a single combined trait on creation which will then have a chance to 'mature' as the campaign goes on. I had a 'Cheerful' character advance their characteristics just by recruiting in a province without fighting much. Additional negative/positive traits will still appear as far as I can see but between the base characteristic and any traits gained from promotions there's not many spaces left.

We are hard coded to 3 sadly. But these replace the old vanilla background traits.

Also, while we did use that trait mod idea as a base, I reworked all the effects and traits so that they correspond to the different personality types that make up the trait. The traits also aren't a pure random system anymore because that caused MP desync issues.

Amazing work as always! I had moved on to Attila due to the family tree and multiple traits but I think I want to try the new version of dei now.
