Amazing mod
Hello TWC and fellow commanders, I've been lurking around this site for some years not much of a poster but I did want to share my praise for this fantastic mod. I'm about 100 turns in now and the very first thing I notice was the battles and how tactical they are. Now maybe I just didn't really understand mechanics in vanilla Rome 2 or maybe the mod just fixes what was horribly wrong because battles for me now come down to my ability to read and maneuver on the battlefield. as Egypt I don't have to spam pikeman I can now properly diversify my army and use different flexible tactics.
My first siege battle I fought I fielded about 1600 strong against a defense of 3100. completely outnumbered and the odds against me I properly encircled the settlement and executed precise slinger screens around the backs of the defenders main line punched through a gap when it presented itself with my cav and annihilated the back circle blob of enemy archers running through with continuous momentum straight into the backs of the left side engagement which shortly resulted in a mass route on that front allowing my left side force to move into center and assist with the final push.
I finished the battle actually clapping for myself. I literally never had so much fun in a single total war experience save for maybe shogun 2. This is how tactics and strategy should be done and I bid a strong farewell to vanilla Rome 2's 5 minute engagements of a mass blob, completely unsophisticated compared to mechanics like this.
If I have one gripe so far and it is a very very small one it is the speed of movement on the battle field. I completely understand it's importance to layering the tactical maneuvers but if it was brought up just a bit it would make some of the charges feel a little more visceral. This is of course completely my own personal taste and in present state I see no negative impact it has on the mod as a whole.
As a final closing I would ask if it is recommended I use the stand alone version on here over steam? are there stability issues with one over the other?. I'm presently using the steam version with no issue but as I understand the stand alone version is more supported with present saves.
Cheers mates

Re: Amazing mod
The standalone version is the most stable one as Steam have its flaws. Only reason for some to choose the steam version is due to the automatic update.
If you like how battles are in the current version just wait till you get to experience version 1.1.. Which is released tomorrow.
Just had a battle with it..
I was slightly outnumbered. Attacked an unwalled settlement defended by the garrisson and a small army. Usually the AI just blobs and is easily flanked. Something which I anticipated for this battle aswell. Thought it would be an easy win.
Oh how I was wrong
The enemy cav attacked my flanking force and though I eventually beat them it took me so long that they were able to punch through my main line and started attacking my flank and rear. Even my second flanking attack was stopped and beaten. The AI used its advantage in numbers to out maneuver me and eventually won the battle meaning that I had to fall back and regroup. Totally awesome battle and not what I had expected.
