Tolkien Estate has not sold the rights to Silmarillion, so that's the end of that.

Further that "news" for sure is another prank.
Try to find any information on these "Gary Caldwell of the North Bend Press" or "Francis Villalba of Grinnell". Nor do anything the 'expert' say sounds like anything someone who have actually read the book would discuss, but rather phrases tossed by someone who have checked a web page, haha.

After having seen The Hobbit i don't think he deserves to film the Silmarillion anyways. He would probably ruin it so that casual audiance could understand what the story is.

Well, properly the question of the OP is answered and this thread has fulfilled it's purpose.
If people desire to discuss PJ's capacity to adapt Tolkien's Hobbit here's the place (or dig up the old Gripe-thread, god forbid hehe), and if people in general want to discuss the idea of adapting Silmarillion in general, then a new thread on that topic can be started.
