Default Who gave you a harder time, the Timurids or the Mongols?

With my Egypt campaign, the Mongols were a huge shock and they destroyed stack after stack I sent at them because of their sheer numbers.

I managed to repel them however, and drove them northward/Eastward to Eastern Europe so they can ravage the Byzantines, Hungarians, Polish, and Russians instead

By the time the Timurids have arrived, I had most of North Africa, the Holy Lands, and Asia Minor in control but I didn't expect a thread from the east to arise again, so my garrisons were destroyed. By the time my main army arrived to face them, I had better troops like Mamluk guards and I had cannon to match their Elephants. Took care of them easy and drove them eastwards so they and the Mongols can fight an endless war in the east...

So which invasion gave you a harder time, the Mongols or the Timurids? (I found that the mongols vastly outnumbered the Timurid invasion)

I will see them soon in my Byzatinian campaign.
Changed the Exp levels from 6 to 2

I just think that an exp level of 6 is to high

I don't think an exp level of 6 is to high, keep in mind that they just rampaged through all of Asia pretty much.

No one gave me any trouble. As Venice, I held the holy land for the long time but they never showed up. Around 1200s I got the message but then quiet. about 100 years later it turned out they had just sacked cities in russia and on the steppes, and at that point they settled in Kiev and wroke havoc upon the hapless hungarians. At this point I only needed 5 cities to win so I did that. I did spy on them though.... seesh 6 xp armies led by numerous 10 dread 7-10 star generals?

In order to face such armies I would need some heavy gunpowder army!

i would have to say the mongols because i never lasted long enough to face the timurids playing as the turks.

got destroyed trying to manage a war on multiple fronts...

My battles against the Timurids always seemed to result in an "unspecified error" crash so I'd have to say the Timurids.
The Mongols were horribly difficult to fight though. I only made the mistake of fighting them outside a city/castle twice and they absolutely destroyed me. The tactics the AI used were spot on for their forces. Surround me from all sides and pepper me with arrows, false charges to draw out units and then smash anything away from my main force. Not that the city battles were much easier since thee heavy lancers were able to smash an entire unit of spearmen in a head on charge and I had to defend the breaches three units deep.

glad i played as england, went on a crusade to take jerusalem but the mongols took it over with about 6 full stacks so i abandoned the crusade in the end cause it looked pointless.

For me, on the last 2 campaigns (m/m – England), it has to be the Timurids, if, for no other reason than their ‘ultra accurate’ Elephant artillery units. These, on more than one occasion wiped out my 4xTrebuchets, 2xCulverans, 1xmortar and 2x ballistas in the space of two minutes! (Odd, because when I have the merc Elephants, they can’t seem to hit anything – nor can my main artillery, come to think of it, no matter how many chevrons adorn the unit card!)
Tough call, but the Timurids win on the difficult stakes by a mere whisker, for me at least.

There does seem to be a bug with them not showing up sometimes, but count yourself lucky. THe Mongols are very, very hard to beat.

I'm palying Russia and the Mongoles arrived a few turns earlier. I was ready for them so I had two full stack armies to wait for them. Even with that I couldn't hope to defeat them in the open, so I escorted them from Sakrel through Poland (which belongs to me but is under attack by Denmark) to Denmark. I still can't belive this worked. Well they tortured Denmark for a few turns, then came back with a lot less troops, so I killed them. There is a small army still lose somewhere.
By the way, do the Timurids invade north or south of the Caspian sea?

In my current game, the timurids are way worse. I'm playing as turkey, and the mongols appeared on my lands, saw my big stacks, and decided to leave me alone. They took the whole of russia and god knows what else up north (i dont explore much) and then started to batter their way through the christians. They finally attacked, on the turn I got the "another threat from the east" warning. They took my northern most region, only for the timurids to appear, and attack them before I could take it back. For a few turns they did battle, with 5+ full stacks each, before the mongols retreated.

The timurids just attacked me, however I cannot play the game anymore until the patch comes out, because the war elephants make the game crash for me. Theres no way I can rely on auto-resolve to win battles, so I'm hoping CA fix their broken game, or else I'll have to sell it and buy something else that works.

The game crashes when I try to fight the Timurids, as mentioned by several others here, so I've not really fought them. I haven't fought the Mongols extensively, but I did win a couple of battles against them.

Yes, and it's ridiculously effective against city walls

I haven't faced the Timurids, but the Mongols will be the harder of them to me as I'm playing as the Khwarezmian Empire, Late Era, VH/VH (Stainless Steel). So I face them right from the beginning, with only one useful full army and they have their numerous armies.

Woah, just noticed the post before the last post's date

My experience so far of the Mongols, is that I took Antioch off them as a Crusade.
They counter attacked with 2 full stacks within 4 turns after assasinating my King(English-medium/medium settings). I won but my 75% strength stack suffered in that battle, what was left got kicked out of the city next turn in a rebellion, killing my second in command.
Then when I was stuck outside the walls a fresh Mongol army wiped me out.

I am currently building a special army to go back to the holy land.
