    Default Tired of the expansions?

    Hello there
    to be honest i dont like any of the TW expansions, they add little to nothing to the game.
    So i ask myselfdo the most people like it that way or would they like an expansion wich increases the main game with new features?
    You ask for steak, I bring you fish. You say that you think steak is better than fish. I say that fish is much more popular than steak so obviously it's better. You say that no matter how good the fish is it can't be better at being steak than the actual steak we used to serve. I say that's just your perception and you're entitled to it but you should accept that fish is the future and that's good. You begin to say something but I stab you in the eye with a fork and run into the kitchen.

    Yeah, I didn't like BI that much, since there's just so few provinces and not many units.. And I really didn't like a single unit, they were just boring. So I went back to the original Rome.
    Viking Invasion was pretty good, I even played the campaign. =D It also updated the original game.
    If the expansion of M2 will have like 20 provinces and 5 different units.. I'm not getting it. I want it to add something to the original, maybe continue where M2 ends, or at least put some new features and lots of units there. Then I'm satisfied and might even pay 30€ for it.
    Although I doubt that will happen.

    I liked Viking Invasion - in fact I wish it had been bigger.
    Barbarian Invasion was ok
    But I was very disappointed with Alexander.

    I'd perfer some additional factions and such for the Grand Campaign.

    I liked the expansions because they mostly go into era's i really like.

    But i hope the expansion for mtw2 will be special like around 1500 or so.

    Come to think of it, I never really liked the expansion scenarios. Mongol Invasion for Shogun for a start. Then came Viking Invasion for Medieval, and I played it maybe once or twice. The tech tree is too limited in my opinion, and I don't mean where it ends, but the variety thereof. However, I liked the changes VI made to the main Campaign like new units (like Swabian swordsmen! HA! Being a swabian myself and living near Stuttgart, I made it my duty in life to include some in every field army... ) and the fact that now besieging armies took casualties as well as the besieged. Encouraged assaults that.
    Barbarian Invasion? Welllll... I absolutely hated the horde thing. I mean, you have an opponent by the throat, and his king sits alone in a tiny remote settlement wth 50 inhabitants. You kill him, and from his grave spring 10000 men eager for battle. Yech. Best strategy was to leave every faction one settlement instead of exterminating them. And that sucked, because sometimes these were good ones...
    I didn't play Alexander, but from what I hear, I am not too eager to try it out. What I am hoping for is an expansion that expands the scale of the grand campaign and does not focus on offering an alternate scenario to it. I want new factions, new units and the renaissance included. That would be great.
    *shrug* Well, however it's themed, I'll most likely get it anyway...

    i dint like any of the two expansions {ATW ,BI}
    as compared to rtw {which i liked more than mtw1}
    but we need expansion from modding point of view which mini camapigns from ca cant provide .and for mini campaigns we have modders ,dont we??

    how about his expansion changes the map to one twice the size and adds another 10 factions into the game? A real "expansion"

    I liked the Mongol and Viking Invasion expansions, but not BI or Alexander. The RTW campaigns really didn't enhance the primary campaign in any significant way.

    My opinions

    Shoguns mongol invasions was good
    Medieval viking invasions was good
    Romes Barbarian invasions was good from a modding stand point only
    Romes Alexander was a bad joke

    I didnt like Shogun (not an interesting era for me) nor RTW for that matter (no proper formations). I didnt like Viking Invasion (Barbarians are boring to play) nor Barbarian Invasion (same reason). I really liked MTW though and really like this new one. I guess medieval warfare is really interesting compared to anything else as it allows me to play as the English and attack France which has got to be the best war to play. I doubt I would be interested in any other era other than perhaps the Great War. But that would have been far better if we had attacked the French then as well.

    I'm of the exact opposite opinion as the previous poster, I love RTW, the expansions (the latter partly because I was privileged enough to play the best mods for RTW because of it),, I love RTW most (and the Alex/BI expansions to an admittedly lesser degree, not because I think the game's are better than MTW 1&2, but because I simply love the period more, and the in-game music. Because I love the period, I still find it more immersive than the latest and greatest, purely personal and nothing to do with game mechanics.

    Yes i thought also that from a modding perspective its better to implement new features in the grand campaign
    Besides that i found also viking invasion the best expansion so far

    i'd prefer expantions that add more stuff to the main campaign than giving us an extra little map to play on. in that regard, the BI expantion was quite good, but added next to nothing to the main campaign, i think night battles and a few bug fixes was it.

    Gameplay wise, VI was the best.(I didn't play Shogun) BI offered alot to the modders, but it was horrible to play.(The skins, the AI, the map. It all sucked!)

    Actually I'm more for the large mods. They go for realism instead of more of these fantasy units and settings. I'm waiting for that, not for any official expansions. MTW II has a great potential, but as long as I'm forced to do the rule the world thingy, it's not my idea of absolute fun. A mod depicting the actual age with it's strives (real units and provinces) would do more nicely for me.
