    Default [VID]Cavalry Demos.

Well, I have read through a number of threads about cavalry, unit cohesion, single and double click attacks. I thought I would just try out some simple 1 on 1 stuff on Grassy Plain and see what the fuss was all about.

First video is English Templar Knights in wedge, single click attack on enemy. They are up against some French armoured spearmen -- needless to say the results are less than encouraging. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CMjdDnUirDM

Second vid, is the same Templars facing off wth French Pikemen. No wedge, double click attack. Better for the cav, no doubt. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W4QPd0LuIEA

Lastly, I wanted to see how well Billmen did against cavalry. I haven't really found a place for Billmen in my armies because they are generaly outmatched by dismounted knights. My thought was that Billmen would be able to unhorse a few Cavlary units before being ground to dust. Watch the video, the French Calavry is absolutely devastating. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rP3UgemXiwI

Apparently it takes a few minutes for youTube to update the video. In any case, if there is somewhere I can host these without having youTube re-recompress them, please let me know. I know it is tough to make out any of the detail.

The pikemen were not bracing for some reason; if they were, your cavalry would not have killed anyone on the charge and would've been skewered =/

Also, chargining across an open field leads to no problems. In your tests, try to pull back after the charge about 20 meters and charge again. This is where people run into the cohesion problems.

The Billmen won't fight. Dismounted Feudals fight, iirc, but since Dismounted English Knights use billhooks, they won't.

Nice work, it's good to see some proper analysis. Just keep in mind that TW is fairly random, to be really sure you need to run the test a few times.

When you consider that Knights cost 3-4 times more than other units though, you more or less expect them to kick ass.

    nice 1st post.
    And Welcome to TWC.

If you can manage ,try to put more videos of the same situation, brings more proof to the table so to say.

Also in the vid you posted you started attacking from the start of the battle, i heard if you did that the attack is succesful 90% of the time, but if you move them around a bit and then single click attack them the results vary.

so if you could the knights about a little bit and then attack the enemy.

I have another full scale battle I am about to upload. We'll see how it turns out. I am not very good at the TW series. it seems most of my battles turn into large, disorganized melees with very little strategic value.

Usually big battles do turn into big disorganised melees. It tends to be all the maneuvering before that decides it though. So long as a) you're not charging straight in, or you are charging straight in but you know why you're doing it, and b) your k/d ratio is good then you're probably fine.... so long as you're not getting defeated often, if ever, and not a lot of close defeats, except maybe against overwhelming odds, you're probably alright.

I think we've already established the cavalry are only buggy in the campaign mode and not in custom battles.

    Do some campaign tests drake.

Why are cavalry only buggy in campaign mode and not custom battles? This would lead me to believe it is a problem with the generated maps. Perhaps all those minor obstacles like those rock hard scrubs?

Here is the larger battle. I really wish it wouldn't compress it so horribly that you can't see a darn thing.

French vs English. Using the French pikemen I tired to set up a wall where I could work the flanks as much as I wanted and get around behind the English line. The Pikes and Dismounted Knights are there mostly to let the English grind away while I pull the cavalry and spearmen around the edges.

I think the spearmen on the flanks worked out tolerably well. The cav was able to get around behind everyone and that was the point.
