Help please am I playing at very hard very hard? Is there any way to tell in game by the cost of some units etc or in a game file, because I started playing Venice VH/VH and thought this is particularly easy. Reinstalled the game for a different reason and started playing Venice VH/VH again, but all the posts I keep reading are about relentless foes. All I am seeing is lightly defended fortresses everybody seems to be bankrupt and most of the time their armies are somewhere else. This is at about turn 85!

Sure you are playing VH/VH? How much of the map have you conquored?

This is why I ask, I am well used to playing total war games and I am almost certain I chose VH/VH.I have conquered 23 regions so far but these where taken practically in my sleep.I,ll just add that from my positions on the map with my large armies there does not seem to be any real threat, perhaps only from the Mongols who I can see from Damascus. Either I have made a mistake when choosing my options (99% sure I did not) or there is a problem with VH/VH

There is no problem with VH/VH. It's difficult to make allies (and keep them), the AI makes a lot of stacks and is almost always against you.

I got excommunated from defending against the Danes in my France campaign, the Pope declared a crusade on Toulouse and almost everyone joined it against me.

It's not impossible/that hard to win because battles are still too easy (they would be even without the bugs), but the campaign AI is very good.

You are either playing great or you picked the wrong difficulty.

Not sure, but you may be able to test by auto resolving a battle. If troops are about equal or you have less and you win , then its probably on an easy level.

Iam also under the impression that VH is easier
    Perhaps an error
    Remember RTW has something similar
You ask for steak, I bring you fish. You say that you think steak is better than fish. I say that fish is much more popular than steak so obviously it's better. You say that no matter how good the fish is it can't be better at being steak than the actual steak we used to serve. I say that's just your perception and you're entitled to it but you should accept that fish is the future and that's good. You begin to say something but I stab you in the eye with a fork and run into the kitchen.

I believe battle difficulty no longer applies stat modifiers. Battle difficulty just adds modifiers for morale/fatigue/etc. to make it harder to manage your army in a battle.

Campaign difficulty can seem easy in one VH game, and then impossible in another VH game. It depends a lot on simple luck and chance.

Is it just me, or have the battle AI worsen with the series? I played Shogun to death, and remember the battle AI quite decent. Then i skipped the original medieval and Rome, and now i'm totalwaring full time again, and i found the battle AI in medieval II ridiculously easy even on VH (yes i'm 100% sure i got the right difficulty). It doesn't do much cept responding to my moves. And standing still making living targets for my longbowmen/ siege.
