    And it appears the final speculation is the AI is OK here because he is transporting units to some destination.

    Well, WRONG. What the AI did with these units is attack Milanese and Sicilian units in noorthern italy (and rebels too) with them one at a time and lose, then lose some more, then lose...

    I'm getting the suspicion that this is the sort of reasoning that used in BETA to not report things as they played. The origin of the thread was not to spam, it was to show a very bad case of AI not combining units. He has two enemy states near him there that attacked him as well, so he lost units for no reason in battles with no chance to win.

    This was on h/h.

    So, to answer Halie Satanus, and Reiver: there IS a percevied threat there for Venice- the milanese and the sicilians. They are not marching to rendevous with anyone- or, even if they are, they should have a clue that they will never get there because the enemy is all over the place between their origin and their destination.

    Revier the next turn, in fact ten or so turns in my game last night showed Venice wasting $$ building single units and getting them slaughtered- it never saved them up in a city and hten launched out a force.

    And wth kind of logic is it to march singly like that- no one does that. You begin by grouping then march out a group of units incase something happens along the way unless you are marching through absolutely safe terriotory which this is clearly not in this case.

    The reason is: the other one is closed. The speculation at the end when it is closed is WRONG. So I wanted to correct the incorrect assumption people made about what the AI was doing.

    another problem for me is the City/castle garrison or lack of any.i mean if you plan carefully you can take 4-5 regions in two turns Oo

    Then let's hope that this thread does not deteriorate to the point where it is felt necessary to close it.
    It could be very useful if CA are aware of situation which has been illustrated by the OP, as it can hopefully be addressed. I too have experienced similar behaviour in my campaigns by the AI.
    With having the FOW on though my observations are fairly limited, but I have noted single stacks of troops not combining or merging into a large army stack and that is not uncommon. What did surprise me is that when France declared war, I was playing as the English, there were quite a few of single stack French units close to each other. If they had combined they could have mounted a real serious threat, especially against one or two of my lightly defended border cities.
    Instead they attacked in single stacks. Whilst that was beneficial for me it sort of marred the experience.
