Default The Last Kingdom TV series

It appears at long last Bernard Cornwell's Saxon Stories have been put on celluloid (they still use that, don't they?). Seen the first two episodes and must say it's quite entertaining although the main character lacks a bit of 'umph'.

Have to agree, so far it's pretty decent as history based entertainment goes.

The books are like 10x better... in the TV series they had to cut characters/events due to low budget. It got me pissed from 1st episode when they made a joke out of the 1st battle... and that's where the book shines at, capturing the fear of men as they slowly advance in a shield wall (not a stupid blind charge) and how they build thy're courage to advance. And in the TV series Uhtred is teaching the english how to fight like they never done this before and he's a master... actually he has yet to fight in a real shield wall too this point so in the book he is sent to the navy for his 1year contract cuz he sailed with the Danes while the english are really lacking experience there. I'm guessing they had no budget for a sea adventure in the TV series lol

Its great to see it on TV even if it is BBC2. If you are expecting a cast of thousands and epic battles you will be dissapointed. But they have done a decent job of bringing the books to the TV screen

The season 3 is slated to be shown by Netflix in two days time. A trailer is here. I wonder if anybody still plays the TLK mod?

    In 2 days? Awesome!
Which Total War is the TLK mod for? I was going to make my own Last Kingdom mod for Attila, but I never got around to it.

Medieval 2: Total War: Kingdoms i suppose?

It's this mod, however - it's based on the books and not the show i think.

Nice to see a trailer, in ways i prefer this show over Vikings - but i do like them both.

Going to have to watch that trailer now, and see the entire thing in two days time - like i did with Daredevil recently.

I mean this one, so for Medieval II.

There's a Viking mod for Attila, have you tried it?

Been watching almost the full season 3 now, and man do i love the music in this show - especially the music when evil Norsemen are sacking a village or something!

In any case, i were not very happy that they killed the most loveable character - He who had honor, pride and were a warrior and a brother.

You may listen to the podcast with Bernard Cornwell, the author of the TLK, on the History Extra webpage.

Just bought the first book, interested to see how it compares to the TV series (in a dramatic sense moreso than the historical accuracy, that I'm assuming is superior.)
