Sound just... vanished?

So, I have never experienced anything like this, and just searching for a fix on google lead me to nothing really similar to my problem.

I was playing single player and was in a battle, everything was normal and then my sound just gave out (ONLY for Medieval 2, everything else has sound). It came back after a few moments, but went away again. Even a reinstall didn't fix it. No sounds play at all in any situation, even when the company logos play there is no sound. Same goes for all the Kingdoms expansions.

Have you tried looking in your in-game audio settings?

When you first launch the game, click on Options, then Audio Settings. You should see a box that says Mute Sound. Is it checked?

I'm not sure whether this is the problem, but let's check it out first.
