Default Could use some help with formations

I'm very confused now.. The cavalry wedge dosn't work.. I get more casualties using that then a forward charge

Spear wall is a joke.. Halbard and Pike militias have such low attack and defence that they make the city militas look uber..

The shivalrasklasdakn formation *no idea how its spelled* that the low grade spearmen use.. I cant seem to figure out a use for...

What I'm asking is, has anyone used any of these abilities to some sort of advantage? The cavalry and shivaklsd (sp) don't matter as much as they are good independant units.. but I cant even use my halbarders or pikemen in a field because they are TERRIBLE as far as stats go.. And using them to defend walls is a joke. My Pesant archers hold the walls better than they do..

    Looking for some help

    Thanks in advance
I pissed off the edge of the wall.. slept in a sky cell. Fought with the hill tribes... so many adventures

The halberdiers are terrible due to a bug right now, but try voulgers (french heavy infantry) in spear wall formation. The wedge has been useless since RTW, so no surprise there. I havne't found a use for schiltron yet, though.

The stats on pike units are misleading, CA might've forgotten to tell us something about some units (voulgers, lancers, other elite units that have low stats).

They are? I play as French at the moment, and I have been using halberdiers for the first time yesterday. They were great! I finally attacked Caen to have the English out of France once and for all, and four units of halberdiers led the attack. Admittedly, I lost half to two thirds of them, but they really cleaned those English bastards' clocks!
One unit was down to maybe 25 men and was attacked by a full group of levy spearmen. And they WON. Arrrrr! Can't wait for the Voulgiers, if those are even better.

BtW: what is that bug supposed to be?

I can't see what's wrong with halberdiers either, I have had much the same experience. Yes they have at times taken heavy casualties but they have held together and they are particularly effective against cavalry.

I have used schiltrons several times (the men huddle in a knot with spears pointing outward) against cavalry very effectively, particularly in city streets. Like waves smashing against rocks.

Thing about the halberdiers' spear wall I find is that it's near useless on a battlefield but in sieges you can hold streets and gates from the enemy so long as they hold position.

I used the spearwall formation offensively. It worked well...
