    Default Plans for battle optimization?

Hey DeI team, was just wondering what you could say to this question of optimizing battles, or the player experience of battles? (I understand KAM is managing the stats optimization and such.)

For example, unit mass/collision optimization to reduce the instances of individual soldiers blinking/teleporting/sliding/stuttering toward/away from other units they are colliding with? whether charging or marching? Like when 2 units blob together during a march, u see individual soldiers "bumping" into each other, or come to a complete stop altogether, which causes the models to kind of stutter/slide out of the way of the other, rather than seeing them smoothly sort of 'glide'/brush closely against the other without causing any sort of 'jumpiness' in the models. What parameters affect this sort of unit/model interaction/collision anyway? those in battle_entities?

    excited about 1.1

Unfortunately the unit mass and collision issue is because of the game engine itself.

There really isn't anything at all we can do about that.

Even more, those values are non existant in the game. Unit mass only changes stuff related to infantry vs cavalry/chariots/elephants charges.

Spacing is a bit changed in 1.1 so for example hoplite formation or legionary formation won't cause soldeirs to shove other guys around. You can actually see in already in the animations preview.

I also noticed that some of the bugs seem to happen only on specific PC settings, for example I never had the bug with pike phalanx sliding forward and back, while some people have it very often. Wascape has many, many odd things in it, like when everything runs very smooth but walking animation stutter eventhough fighting or dying animation are running normal etc.

This is one of the most bizarre bugs I've seen in any game. When everything is running smoothly, and there is no indication anything is wrong what so ever, but something is not working correctly despite everything else working correctly.

It's a way the game compensates for high resource usage without actually lowering your FPS - it just slows down animations, and you see the stuttering because of that. The way I understand it, it's actually intentional, not exactly a bug. I may be wrong about that though.

Interesting. Supreme Commander did that by turning all textures into a flat plannar white, though I only saw it actually do this on my friends Xbox. I'd never had my system pushed to the brink with SupCom at home on the computer, but I was aware that was a mechanic to preserve stability on both systems.
