    Default After Battle Graphical Error

Hi, I have recently reinstalled SS6.4, so it IS a clean install, and it is as much fun as I remember it being. However, whenever I fight a battle on the map, unless each army contains no more than about 5 units each, there will be a 'Fatal Graphical Error' CTD upon clicking 'end battle'. This has led to me having to fight a battle, and then depending on whether I win or lose, reloading and either using the auto_win cheat or simply auto-resolving and accepting the loss, which is rather a ball acheas one can imagine. Originally my setup was huge unit scale but I resorted to normal, and this is still a problem (note also I don't enable permanent arrows). My video settings are all set as high as possible, and I experience no frame rate drops on or off the battlefield. I'm sure that playing on medium or low will resolve the problem, but frankly I shouldn't have to as my AMD Radeon Dual X R9 270X is more than enough to handle Rome 2 at highest settings so SS shouldn't be a problem. This is compounded by the fact I used to play SS on my old, significantly less advanced computer on almost identical video settings and I've never experienced this problem. Any help would be incredibly appreciated to help me play my favourite total war once more!

    Thanks in advance, Barl.

Try a clean install of the catalyst driver, that should resolve such errors. See this related post !

Thanks Riva for the speedy reply! May sound like a silly question, but I've had a bad experience with similar issues in the past, so what's the best way to go about reinstalling the driver? I assume it's done through catalyst manager but...

Hm i think there are many ways to do it, there are even tools that can help you deinstalling the driver correctly. Usually i deinstall in Windows Device Manager and turn off the option to automatically install new devices. Then just restart and do a clean install with the catalyst software suite.

I used to have problems updating AMD drivers.
Usually had to uninstall and then run a utility such as this : http://www.guru3d.com/files-get/disp...wnload,20.html
NOTE - I haven't used that particular version as I have nVidia card now and updating drivers works fine without using a driver cleaner / sweeper tool.
Make sure you don't get any malware installed with that

As for graphics problems generally, esp battlefield ones. I'd recommend turning down the settings to low ones to see if that solves the problem.
Then slowly bump up a notch or two check to see if that works until you hits a problem then turn them back down to the highest stable settings.
    For example
You can turn off bloom and high detail vegetation etc without losing anything from the game.

Riva, I have followed your advice and my updated drivers have had some small success- I no longer suffer from graphical error CTDs, just 'unknown error' ones! (Still at the end of battles.) Thanks for taking the time to reply 2Broz, however I think your solution would still be circumspect to the size of the armies involved and how many armies are engaged? Not to mention that my computer should still be able to smash this nine year old game. I'm at a loss, but I don't think I could ever go back to Rome 2...

Nope, i never experienced post battle crashes caused by the number of armies or their size. First, make sure you are using the latest bugfix compilation for SS. Otherwise.... do the CTDs occur randomly after playing for a while or can you reproduce them after loading your savegame and fighting the same battle again ?
