    Default something very very STRANGE I FOUND IN THE CAMPAIGN FOLDER...

    k we all supposedly know this is a new game... right??? hmmm, i was looking in the campaign folder, editing the mongols in the script, and then i decided to look at some of the descriptions files... (for people that have never moded and want to follow along the description files are in "data/world/maps/campaign/imperial_campaign/"

    the 4 description files i found are the "description, description_venice, milan and sicily,"

    This was the same way with rome i think, but here's where it gets EXTREMELY WIERD, look in the description_milan, venice or sicily...
    here's what it sais in the description_venice;

    "Venice

    Rome is a place where tradition and history count for much. The legends of the city’s founding are important, and the powerful patrician families are directly descended from the first followers of Romulus. These heroic times demanded harsh, decisive action, and this is a tradition that the often-conservative Romans have maintained to this day. The Romans, including the Julii family, are people for whom politics and war are all or nothing affairs.

    The Fates have not always been kind to the Julii. They are a patrician family but one whose star has not always been in the ascendant. The family’s fortunes have declined and then risen over the centuries, so much so that they may almost be considered vaguely parvenu: upstarts newly arrived to wealth, power and authority. With the loss of position and status in the past, the other powerful factions of Rome look down (if only ever so slightly) on these ‘new men’ of Rome. The Julii have had to adjust to the realities of politics and power in Rome, and have cultivated their popularity with the common people. The rule of Rome may lie with the Senate for now, but the Julii know that the people also have a say in government. The Senate and the patrician classes need the plebeians to at least go along with their actions.

    This populist attitude to the common people puts the Julii at odds with the other great families. Which approach will lead to great power within Rome has still to be decided. The Julii have a commanding position in northern Italy that means they will be in vanguard of any struggle against barbarians. Success there can be translated into political power in Rome itself, as the mob always loves winners..."

    okay? considering that rome had 4 roman factions ( julii, brutii, scipii, and....the senate)... Mtw2 uses 4 ITALIAN( err roman?) factions (sicily, venice, milan, and u guessed it the papacy(senate)...

    So what is this saying??? Any knowledgeable people please explain this this?!??! If this doesnt wierd you out i don't know what does!?!?

    Perhaps its something left over from rtw. They use the same engine so its possible.

    It doesn't have any significance. CA built M2TW off of the RTW engine; some vestiges like that doubtless remain. It's perhaps a bit lazy or careless on their part, but I'm sure it means nothing.

    There's more than that left behind there and elsewhere.

    Still, that itself cannot condemn MTW2, since lots of games build on previous engines like that. I personally feel MTW2 is more of a RTW/BI Total Conversion mod, but that opinion is separate from such 'findings'.

    There's quite alot that CA didn't go through the trouble of removing. Things such as this don't have a detriment on the game at all, and the season changing once every two years is more aesthetic than anything. Seeing the kind of programming bugs that are in MTW2, I can't blame CA for having their programmers concentrate on the gameplay rather than nicities such as descriptions and graphics.

    I find it strangely strange that I have this strange feeling
    many of the bugs are related to left overs from RTW code. :hmmm:

    Hmm lets see:

    Sicily->Scipii
    Milan->Julii
    Venice->Brutii
    Papal States->Senate
    England->Britons
    France->Gaul
    Spain->Spain
    Moors->Carthage
    Egypt->Egypt
    Turks->Parthians
    HRE->Germania
    Russia->Scythians
    Byzantium->Seluecids
    Hungary->Dacia

    Poland, Portugal, Scotland don't fit into the parrallel though. Buts its pretty clear the actual programming/coding of the game remains the same.

    Well yes M2Tw is built off of the RTW engine. This is most clear when you look in descr_strat and see references to the marian reforms and gladiator uprisings. Both of which are disabled. Most likely it was easier to just disable those features than spend time removing them.

    Omg Dooooom
    You ask for steak, I bring you fish. You say that you think steak is better than fish. I say that fish is much more popular than steak so obviously it's better. You say that no matter how good the fish is it can't be better at being steak than the actual steak we used to serve. I say that's just your perception and you're entitled to it but you should accept that fish is the future and that's good. You begin to say something but I stab you in the eye with a fork and run into the kitchen.

    Does this also mean that it would be pretty much straightforward to mod in RTW units? Medieval army vs. Roman Legion? YES PLEASE.

    Not really, the data files remain much the same but the engine code has been altered, mainly with regard to rendering and such - units are presented in a completely different way than in rome so there wont be much model or texture compatibility there as far as i know.

    There are various pieces of RTW left in MTW2. Some of its been disabled and some of it is being used.

    It was the same way with MTW havin bits of STW in it. Remember the Geisha pictures?

    Its rather common for programmers to disable instead of delete old code for new products. Good lord I work for a company that has over two decades of old code in one product. There is so much old and unused crap in there its scary.

    Like internet explorer. All the IEs besides 7 have been based on very old code. Just another reason why IE sucks. FireFox FTW.
