Yes...in the start only Latium people had the Roman citizenship and the rest were ALL "allies" but after few centuries all subjects of the Roman Empire recieved the Roman Citizenship!
Remember that St Paul asked for a hearing as ROMAN CITIZEN!
But the Goths and the rest of the Germanic tribes NEVER had the chance to have the Roman Citizenship!
A north african may had that citizenship but Germans never had it!

Makes me think of how Germanic cavalry is superior to Alan cavalry and that Germanic Elite Archers are the best in the game.

They could grey out the British Isles just like Eastern Europe will be. It's irrelevant to the adventures of King Karl.

We don't know yet whether or not this will be a DLC BUT if it is we'll continue forward because we aim to use the entire campaign map. We still feel that the Roman Empire, Umayyad Caliphate, and other Eastern, Steppe, and African factions need to be represented.

    I hope they wont!
The "gualish" and "germanic" village kind of settlements had to wait untill 1200 AD to start changing!
Paris had a single stone tower that was unfinished when the last Viking raid besieged it and gained Normandy!
The rest of Paris' walls and towers were wooden like all central/western european ones!
Only in Spain (Islamic) and Italy were cities with stone walls!
Luckily for CA they have nothing to change in that sector!
From the exelent article of the Medieval Warfare magazine:
Ottonian Germans invade Saxon german village.

Do you see any simularities in this picture and the villages of Rome II and Attila?
IF CA/SEGA will show Charlemagne's era settlements with stone walls that it will be a proven way to promote nationalism against accuracy!
Otto I became King after 1000 AD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Although I do agree with you. What's going to happen to the new Umayyad faction in this new upcoming DLC ? CA is going to leave it with Attila's eastern architecture set and Zoroastrian temples ?

It requires more than just bare names to create a roster. Except of that we have already seen that none of these factions played any significant political role in Attilas timeframe, to be exact they dont even appear in contemporary sources. So that has solved anyway.

Attila had no Slavic factions because they lack sources and were not relevant enough in that timeframe anyway and Charlemagne wont include any because adding the eastern Mediterranean Sea plus all the dozens of new factions is way too much work for a 15€ dlc, not to mention that it also would shift away the focus from Charlemagne. So stop beeing butthurt and rather be excited for Medieval 3.
Took the words right out of my mouth.

Guys calm down. Don't get so butthurt if your ancestors are not included in the game. If you don't like the game just don't play it. Past few month I have been hearing all kings whining about absence of Slavic factions in the main game. This is a strategy game not a history simulator. You are taking it too seriously, there is no need to go berserk if [insert eastern European country] wont be presented in the yet unconfirmed dlc.

This. If it's an actual DLC (and not a fake leak), and if the DLC will solely focus on Charlemagne, TW: Karling will still be worth developing. The mod isn't focussing on one character specifically and will have an insane amount of depth for all cultures and subcultures. There'll be lots of more info on the new stuff in TW: Karling soon.

Anthony, I already told you my opinion three times. Vikings and Charlemagne are more interesting for CA, because the western Europeans and the Americans, by far the largest part of the company's customers, consider them much more interesting than the Chinese and the Turks. When China conquers the world and her citizens become the main target group for CA, then be sure that TW will be full of China-themed games, until then be prepared for watching everything Asian being labelled as "eastern". It's not just, of course, but it's too be expected, that's my point. To be just with CA, some mods also have the same "issue". Compare, for example the number of British regions with the Mesopotamian ones in the most popular R1 mods.

Otto I actually became empreror in 962 AD and neither Odoacer nor his army were Goths, but I agree with the rest. The Byzantines were the legal successors of the Roman Empire at least until 1204 AD. We can't expect from a political entity to remain culturally the same for one milenium.

according to who's laws? Want it. take it.

History is like that. It's not a story book. The reason it is differentiated from the roman empire, is that by this time, it simply was not the roman empire.
Some refuse to call the western empire up until the fall, the roman empire.

    think about it like this.

when was the last time you heard someone make the case that the roman empire was the 'legal successor to the republic'.
You could make the case i bet, but what difference does it make to the facts of life under the roman empire?

True ...You did not see the videos i posted...few posts ago did you? West Rome was conquered by barbarians that remained barbarians since the momment Arabs of Iberia allowed them to have access to Hellenistic and Roman knowlege! Otherwise they would still be barbarians. I guess that is the biggest crime of Arabs! They allowed barbarians to have knowlege they could not hundle for other purposes than distruction!

Under the Roman Law and its Legitimate Emperor Constantine the Great that relocated Roman Empire's Capital from Milan to the 2nd Rome (the city that common folk named Constantine's City but its official name was Nava Roma). True History is not a story book! History is cruel because is made from FACTS . History is not what we like it to be.
Constantine The Great was the one that finallised the "translattio imperii"(move to the new capital) and "translatio regis"(move of the legitimate authority).
He was the 1st Roman Emperor that abandoned Roma Mobillis aand established Roma Orbis.
Before Constantine "Rome" was ANY city that Emperor lived in..With Constantine Nova Roma is that stable CAPITAL of the Roman Empire.
From that point Nova Roma was the universal CAPITAL of Romans in the entire planet!
Renovatio (re-unification of the former Roman lands) and re-conquista were the primary tasks of EVERY new Roman Emperor that obliged to when he was crowned!
EVEN the western knights that conquered Roman Empire in 1204 when they split the lands they called their pact Partitio Romaniae (Roman Empire in parts).
So those knights had to wait us to "tell" them that the Roman Empire they split was not a Roman Empire???
So with or without the 1st Rome (the city) the Empire could still be Roman!

There are like 30 Spanish cities in the DLC according to the post. I find that extremly unncecessary but anyway it seems that the entire iberia will be in the map and not just as invasion scripted armies.

I hope they don't recycle persian architecture to make the moor's cities
