Aside from the original at the start of the game, I haven't seen a single Princess born into the dynasty (I'm at turn 40 something).
I guess we only breed sons and not daughters?

Any female above the age of 16+ or so becomes a princess agent, just don't marry them, off, they normally get a request for marriage as soon as you get them.

Since we're on the subject of princesses...
Does anyone know how to increase their, em, desirability? And why does every princess have a secret love?

Dipolmacy can increase that I remember, just like dipolmate.
And my princesses rarely have secret lover.
Several of the factions fail to produce agent status for the female offspring after the start of the game. SO you start with 2 or so Princesses, and none of the females will get that status after that, even though they are listed in the family tree and are unmarried.
I did get one as SPain when I reloaded after being gone for a few days.
Probably a bug.

I think it's random whether or not a Princess has the brains/beauty to work in diplomacy. That's why some princesses turn into agents when they hit 16 and some don't.
I'd really prefer if it happened more often though.
Non-family generals are also rare. It would be a good touch if 'man of the hour' promotions weren't adoptions but just promotions to general.
Also the Adoption spree that goes on when the family is too small for the kingdom... they should just be promotions to general. Adoptions when the family is in danger of extinction makes sense, but if it gets that bad then the player should learn to be careful instead of the game babysitting them.
With more non-family generals, having the princesses become agents more often would be less of an imbalance as they'd be used to cement internal loyalties more often.
my 2 florins.
Here's a thought. Can you do the whole inbred thing by marrying off the Princess to a family member (like in MTW1)? Some of the traits in an offspring one would get from such union were hilarious.![]()

I would love to see the family tree after that... If it works I demand a screenshot.
I would like more princesses, I think they get secret loves if you have them sitting around in one place too long, and I would guess their charm increases based on diplomatic negotiations, same as a diplomat, and possibly also based on hereditary traits and buildings in the settlement they appear in.
hmm next game I will try to find a princess worthy of marrying one of my family members... All the traits they get from bad wives are just annoying. The whole Mother-In-Law Retinue... And the Wife is a wretch trait
cant marry em to brothers or sousins im afraid. Oh trust me, i tried.Nothing like a little closeness between siblings eh?

I mostly just get lots of cheating. My generals usually end up with mistresses. I say good on them, anyway. The way I wage war, someone has to repopulate the kingdom.
PS. Lol Lavastein, I am sure someone will make a mod, just for you.... Maybe after the patch.
lol. .............................i hope so![]()
i dont see why troops would actually lose moral because their general has a mistress. It was comon after all to have one.
now that i think about it, why cant we have polygamy? we should. AND why cant we have bastard sons from these mistresses? that would be cool as cool.

Why isn't the Emperor of the Holy Roman Empire elected?

Just to clear up the princess confusion. The only princesses that will become diplomats are the ones that are daughter of your current king. So only the girls below the actual family tree of the current king will become a diplomat agent. Other ones that are not in the current king's tree will just mature as a countess and be passive from the events of the times.
And on raising princess desirability. I have had luck getting a princess to 5 hearts using diplomacy and gifting other nations with 100 florins. Keep doing this and she will become a diplomatic predator in no time. However I have not had any success raising the level above 5. Giving any more gifts after this is reached does not seem to have any effect so if anyone knows how to increase the desirability of your princess above 5, would be appreciated if you shared your tips![]()
Thanks for clearing that up fellow Australian!
I still think it's silly that the Emperor is hereditary, but I can understand from a game point of view how much of a pain in the ass it would have been to impliment. Not that I play HRE habitually but they struck my fancy ^^.
In my French campaign, my starting princess agent was amazing. Starting with 3 charm, I diplomatized my way to a whopping 9 charm! Nations and all their princes would humble themselves before her beauty! However, something happened. You have to keep actively using your princess in diplomacy or else they start aging... and unlike the men in this game, women here don't get better/stronger with each turn. I notice that your princess will start losing charm the longer she stays unmarried.
So, after I got all I could use from her in diplomacy, I decided to marry her off before she became too undesirable. Too late though, since all those eligible princes from neighboring factions got married. I ended up marrying her to my best adopted general, and that was the end of that.
Still waiting for my next princess. Also, I believe Fallout is right - princesses only become agents if they are from the royal line.
Yep this is 100% correct, good move by the game developers IMO. I would have hated to have to deal with marrying off like 30 princesses which are cluttering my screen. One problem though is that ive rarely been able to get my king to live long enough for them to get on the map and use them. I wish i could pick my faction heir so when my king is 60, i dont have a 55yr old heir.Just to clear up the princess confusion.
