Since this game is getting bashed so much, I felt it deserved this thread. It may have a few bugs, but I was really excited about Medieval 2 the day I bought it and I was not disappointed. I've been playing it almost non-stop ever since. So if anyone from CA is reading this, thank you for Medieval 2. I look forward to the next game in the Total War series.

As someone who has been playing the game for at least a few hours a day, since the 8th November, and is currently involved in a very good England campaign, i can say that personally i feel this is the greatest game i've ever played.

Yes it has bugs, yes it has faults, but ill be damned if there is any other game like it. Nothing comes close to the TW series for me, and with M2TW, they've just made everything better.

Despite the bugs and minor annoyances, the game is still a great achievement just like RTW or MTW. I contest anyone to find a better Turn based strat/Tactical real time wargame hybrid better than this. Ooops there are no others, only poorly made copycats, where are already forgotten and left inside the bargain bin.

Also, because it has bugs (just like any game released nowadays) this game has yet to reach its full potential after the patches and what modders can pull off, but that doesn't mean that in its current state is unplayable.

Anyone who doesn't agree, please tell me how many hours you have put into this game and compare it to any other games. I can safely bet, that many people will find, that the hours of playing versus the price of the game is greatly worth it, especially if you consider that an average lenght FPS shooter takes about 16-20 hrs to fully finish and then you are done with it.
I have already put about 25hrs into this game and I have not even really begun to play it.

p.s. Wait until I start modding it...;-)

I guess no one would post at all if game at least didnt had any potensial...people are just frustrated about some stuff that has been talked over and over...so they need to vent a little

Tw is still one of best strategy games out there and has only potential to be better in tw battles, tw diplomacy, well you name it, i just hope devs feel the same for all aspects of the game...

I totally agree (still waiting for my Collectors Edition though). Since I've played all TW games, I would say, TW GAMES ARE THE BEST. EVER
And I wasn't talking just about strategy games.
Cadmium 77, comparing to you, I'm a kid, "only" 30, but I never experienced more fun, playing any game. And, personally, I think, CA's attitude towards community deserves alot of credit too.

I love some of the changes made - like having unit limits, and be able to train more than one at a time. Free milita upkeep... the ability to elect a pope... all great!

Diplomacy changes ARE good. You no longer have to give inappropriate deals as you now know what the AI likes. That you may disagree with their priorities is a different matter. It could be alot better, and it isn't as good as what we were lead to believe, but it far better than RTW. The trick is learning what makes the AI think the way it does - like that the AI sees the huge stacks outside their borders and think (uh-oh perhaps I need peace), but never sees the same stack garrisoned in your city a short walk from their own...

And this game has extreme potential in mods! I would love an expanded map with more factions, something like Terra Exugnandae or XL. Even a M2TR would be great, to get some more histoy and less gameplay balance.

Some bugs will have to get fixed, but so far after playing 2 games I'll say the game is definetively playable.

I second that heartily - this is one thing the RTW modders couldn't deliver on that would have been a serious contribution to the "Realism" approach. It's simple, it's realistic, it works.

Diplomacy - indeed it now tells me if I'm flogging a dead horse. Battle - well, it looks fantastic. The AI is at least aggressive when it has a decent mix of offensive troops, and in my first battle, I got (briefly) owned because the AI did something I took for granted it wouldn't do in RTW/RTR.

It looks lovely - particularly in battle, the cities are breathtaking to behold (OK, so my men can't find their way round even when they live there, but hey..). And I think the quality of the skins will separate the men from the boys when the modders get round to creating new units.

What I love about the game (and the TW series in general) is that for those of us - particularly TWC and TR community members - who want to see differnt principles applied to combat, morale etc, it's still just about changing some simple numbers, so we can expect the modders to deliver us years of fun in the future.

It has been said before - but for playing hours vs price, these games are only rivalled by online shooters and no-fee MMORPGs (eg Guild Wars).

I said it many times before but what the hell, I'll say it again, it's the best TW game yet. I'm still playing my first campaign as England on medium/hard difficulty and I'm still having a lot of fun with it. Looking forward to starting my second campaign with HRE later on today. Watch, once the patch and modding tool comes out, this game is going to get a whole lot more interesting.

Heaps of potential? agreed but until bugs r fixed id take RTW with PE mod over M2TW in its current state. M2TW in current form is like a gorgeous blonde with the IQ of a chimp

AI still trods all over your territory at will with no military access granted yet u have no diplomatic recourse available- the only way to get them off your land is attack them.

I have to admit that is very annoying. That bothered me in RTW as well. I don't see why it would be so difficult to add that as an option. You pretty much have no choice to attack them because the longer a non-allied army is in your territory, the more it causes "devastation", a factor which reduces the income of your settlements, and also inexplicably causes an infestation of rebels.

This game is such an improvement on RTW that I also consider it to be the best ever. Even though I don't care as much for the battle aspect as much I do for the campaign map aspect, I still find the battles to be far more entertaining than in Rome.

I've been tricked on the battlefield by the AI a couple times, meaning the AI lured my cavalry into a bad position by exposing some crossbowmen and I lost my heir like that when hidden spearmen and mailed knights jumped his bodyguard as they were slaughtering the crossbowmen.

I've been outflanked and also out raced to high ground by the AI because I was complacent, it is much more appealing to fight battles now on the battle map rather than to just autoresolve as I normally did with RTW. Once the patch is out and fixes many of the minor problems I've encountered it will only be better.

And here's a positive comment that others have said: It's pretty much the best translation of medieval and pre-medieval combat you can get. All the others have super annoying quirks that make the TW series godlike practically.

I think EP from .Org had said that there will be AI files which are indeed moddable. I know that the campaign AI can be modded by mod an xml file call caimpaign_db_ai(not sure) and faction_standing(txt with callbacks to previous file) or something like that. I think there's also an file for battle map AI. This is the definite reason I'm hyped about unpacker.

Again, this game pwns me. Period. Despite the bug Im having alot of blast playing it. I mean, come on, Only TW offers the both fully blown battlefield glory with diplomantic trickery at one game (alright, Imprial Glory has it, but it didnt execute well). Kudos to CA again for M2TW.

On a side note, I think I might found a way dealing with diplomancy(might explain why AI standing deterioted faster). It has to do prioty and matching deals etc but Im still "research" on that. I still need "solid" evidence(experiencing it at multiple times)
