You like your Total War as simple as possible and so love magic ships appearing from thin air anywhere in the world, fair enough, but let's not try to make out it's always been the same.

Incidentally, did you ever notice you can apparently fit an entire army onto a single horse?
What you talk about is escort ships. None of that is relevant to transportation ships. They would always magically appear with the exception of Empire and/or Shogun II, I think. In no TW game, you build transport ships.

Lets not make up about what I want and what the games have.

It's good to know things have not changed much in here LOL!

I am a long time TW player who DID NOT buy RTW2, because after everything I read about it at release I couldn't stomach being badly dissapointed by a game I had been so much in anticipation of... So I was going to start a new thread here asking how Attila is now - ie: finally what Rome 2 should have been? But I figured that question probably gets asked enough already, and so I just scrolled a bit and found this thread. Safe to say from what I'm seeing here they still don't get me back as a customer. My thanks (and sympathies) to all those who did purchase these products and have shared your insight to help the rest of us decide. We who are about to pass on yet another TW game salute you!

Been reading up on the English/Dane wars. It seems they were very loath to attack prepared fortified camps and settlements. There must be good reason for this. If anything was done, it was a surprise attack against an unprepared settlement that might pay off. Otherwise they might try to starve the defenders out, but again something that wouldn't work well if the settlement had good stocks of food. Otherwise harry the countryside. The typical defensive strategy was to move all the peasants and goods into the protection of the forts. Alfred won against the Danes with this strategy in the 890's. Obviously this wasn't a time with siege engine technology of the Romans of later Medieval's.
Proculus: Divine Caesar, PLEASE! What have I done? Why am I here?
    Caligula: Treason!
Proculus: Treason? I have always been loyal to you!
Caligula: [laughs insanely] That IS your treason! You're an honest man, Proculus, which means a bad Roman! Therefore, you are a traitor! Logical, hmm? Ha, ha, ha!

I amazed that they still haven't fixed the testudo bug, just amazed and I have a feeling they will never fix it.
