    Default Question regarding Hamata/Segmentata

I know the reason they have split armor types in cohorts is historical. But is there a simple way through PFM or a submod i can't find, that changes the troops to all wear Segmentata in the latest legionnaires other than the cataphract ones?

Im fairly new to DeI so ive been using a mod that does it for vanilla but im afraid of turning it on in case it messes up the textures permanently for my campaign or something along those lines since it wasn't made for DeI.

If this is the mod you're talking about, then it only affects variant meshes in the PFM, but those might be rather complicated to change manually. I tested it with DeI for you, and while it replaces the entire skins for those units with ones that...don't look nearly as good if I'm honest...it does work with DeI, and it won't mess up your textures permanently so if you decide it's not to your taste, just uncheck it in the launcher.

Thanks, i was hoping to find a way to simply change the variance of the DeI skin, so it's not mixed using a similar method to the Segmentata mod but have no idea how to go about it. Im very new to PFM.

I do love the DeI Skins for lower tier legionnaires but just not a big fan of the extreme difference between the troops during the Imperial Reforms.

I also changed my Imperial reform cohorts to all use Segmentata with a little PFM editing. Maybe not very historically accurate, but I agree on the part about not liking the ingame mix and match of hamata with segmentata.

So what was the reason behind the mixed armor?, my son and I had a discussion about that, him playing the Romans in just about every head to head campaign we have played, he told me that in the imperial era, that the armor was supplied to the troops, and figures it would all be uniform.
To get around the mixed armor he just uses "Armored Legions" to get around the mix, as they all wear the Segmented armor.

Well, for one thing, most of the existing contemporary artistic sources that depict segmentata show a mix of soldiers armed in segmentata and hamata. Specifically, two of the best sources are the Tropaeum Traiani and Trajan's Column. Between the two, the Tropaeum Traiani is considered to be the more accurate, while Trajan's Column seems to take more artistic liberties.

The second thing, and this is basically speculation on my part, is that segmentata was relatively expensive and never adopted in large enough quantities to be able arm each legion in it completely.

    I hope that helps!
