What are the recommended settings for Campaign/Battles?

I play VH/H, but it depends. If you're a newbie or if you play one of the hardest factions, such as Hellenic Kingdoms or Eastern Kingdoms, you may prefer H/H or even less.
The general rule is: the higher your difficulty level, the more hardships will you suffer before breaking even, but the longer will your campaign continue to be challenging fun.

What unit size is expected?

As you like. I have played many campaigns with vanilla setting, but the next will be with the biggest size available (240).
