Default Recommendation for a first DEI campaign as a newbie

Ok so I'm not a newbie but so far the most difficult campaign I've been able to succeed on was a vanilla Sparta on GC (Normal difficulty).
I've played DEI for awhile but can never seem to stabalize relations and economy.
So what faction should I choose for an easy introduction to DEI?

Egypt Take your first few turns as a tutorial then start over a proper campaign once you get the grip on all new features and mechanics Rome is also quite easy.

Speedy reply thank you, I'll give Egypt a go. Must admit never played as that region outside of MTW2.
I found Pikes excellent for hammer and anvil with Egypt being greek I assume they'd be the same as the Greek states but do they have any other varied tactics available to them?

Yes they do! The Ptolemaioi have the largest non-Roman roster, if I'm not mistaken. They have pikes, and what-not, but they also have pretty much everything else you can possibly imagine. Except war pigs.

Seleucid roster crushes Ptolemic roster in size and quality ;D But Egypt has this neat position and bonuses that make for good, non stresful start

haha good good my Sparta campaign was literally Pikes hold, peltast the flanks and anvil with citizen cavalry. Don't get me wrong it wipes the ai out every battle but god it bored me. Barbarian Ambushes on my suebian DEI campaign were eventful but I couldnt advance past Rugians and was ultimatley cream pied =[

Egypt allows you to not worry about food, which is a MAJOR problem for every other faction

The supply system will put even more pressure on food than before. Now you won't be sitting around with 20+ extra food very easily like you could do in 1.0.

Thats because youve never seen me play lol.

As eygypt i head straight down and smash Axum etc to sotuh and turn entire region into pure economic powerhouse .

I learnt a long time ago to only keep military buildings at my border settlements. But yes the supply system will be interesting

As many have said, Egypt probably has the easiest start of any faction: good starting diplomatic position (you can easily get trade agreements with a lot of factions and concern yourself with only one front at a time), lots of food, good starting income, reasonably powerful and flexible roster, and strong naval presence.

I actually think that Baktria has an easier start than Rome, as long as you don't mind fighting horse archers (just pack tons of archers/slingers).

If you want a "barbarian" faction, I think the Iceni have the easiest start of any non-Hellenic (or Roman) faction: they are isolated from most of the Germani/Celts, have one or two possible allies on the island, and a clear enemy to fight at the beginning. Beating the Dumnonii makes a pretty good tutorial before either expanding to conquer the rest of the British Isles or raiding the mainland Celts.

Biggest recommandation I can give is: think out of the box. There is plenty of features that works opposite of what vanilla played like. Read the display icons and tooltips, all effects have changed dramatically, and many are completely new.

True what Butan says. And always ask for tips etc or look in the strategy and gameplay tips thread to find small tips which might help to ease your way to eternal glory.
