Default Medieval Kingdoms Total War: Kingdom of France

    Kingdom of France:

The current king of France, Philip II Capet, is also known as Augustus, and is truly deserving of that title. He has been a remarkable ruler who has turned France into arguably the most powerful nation in Christendom. By promoting the foundation of guilds of all kinds, the prosperity of France's budding merchant class has increased from year to year, and their taxes have enriched the royal treasury. A happy effect of this patronage is that many French architect and mason guilds have produced the finest examples of Gothic cathedrals in Christendom, and have transferred the architectural lessons learned to other building projects.

Philip II is an astute general, having united the cantankerous French lords behind his rule, and led them to glory against the Saracens in Palestine, and against the English closer to home. He has taken the measure of the current king of England, John I, and found him wanting. The English once owned more land in France than the French, but through brilliant campaigns Philip has routed the English at almost every turn, and recaptured much territory that had been taken by stronger English kings.
French knights have taken the concept of chivalry and gallantry farther than any other nation in Christendom, and their knights are commonly accepted to be the finest on earth. This focus on nobility has made the nobles more powerful overall, and they keep a substantial amount of tax wealth for themselves, to maintain their fighting potential at its peak. This focus on knighthood has also made the French army more imbalanced than their neighbors, with infantry roles suffering as a result. The power of the French knights, however, should be more than enough to see them through most encounters on the field of battle.
King Philip II is the most powerful monarch in Christendom at present, and his reign has been nothing if not successful. But he may yet be a victim of that success. A powerful alliance has been forged against him consisting of England, the Holy Roman Empire, and the rebellious county of Flanders. With three powerful forces arrayed against him, Philip will need to use every ounce of strength from himself and his subjects to see off these foes and establish the power of France once and for all.

    Units:

A couple of the units are designed for very late game and you can only have a relatively small number of them. Also the blues on some of the units will have their saturation turned down a bit, don't worry.

Like before, I made other noble versions of some of the units, using other notable nobles coat of arms as a baseline. Also if there are some inconsistent units from the albums below, that's just me flubbing up, all the mini rosters will have the same units.

I think that's it from me. Next preview you'll see from me will be about the Duchy of Burgundy, the County of Toulouse and Provence! Also the faction icon might change due to it being from slightly later. We are aware of that difference.

Looks very good. My suggestion is to make sure their name is France in the game and not Kingdom of France. I say this because some mods go overboard with the long winded nation titles and make it hard to find them on the diplomacy screen.

Amazing! Just a little note about the Grendarmes unit : Don't you mean "Gendarmes"?

Anyway, the late King is lovely

I can't wait for the campaign! But it probably won't come until after the first release, I would guess.

I'd like to see this mode more "bellum crucis" like, because I think that's made quite perfectly as texturing. You know, where is the late game heavy infantry? all stops at the men at arms. Now, I understand what you said about the knightly based french army, but when I get into XIV-XV century I don't actually fancy the idea of still having the medium armoured infantry. Another heavy infantry unit like, dunno, foot Gendarmes ? or foot Chevaliers. This request goes for pretty every western europe faction you are going to do. Avoiding to make two post, I'll write it here: being archers the core of england's army, you should add one or two more units, like yeomen (with that little lovely shield on the left arm would be just too fantastic ) with a decent mediem-heavy armour, if you don't want to make retinue longbowman heavier.
Additional request (I know you got your balls plenty of my advices/requests xD): if you can make the banner bearer and the man next to him bellum crucis like, so with a different type of tabard colouring (for example for france the three yellow fleurs on blue) and the man next to the standard bearer with the knight helmet and claymore. That's all, thx for reading and I hope you consider my very annoying wishes

    it keeps looking good!

I especially like the mix of the preview - you show factions from different areas, and not just concentrate e.g. on Western Europe first.

Picky suggestion here, how comes the crossbows look really small? Dont they usually use bigger crossbows? Looking fantastic though

I don't think there are any medieval crossbow mesh and textures that are open sourced projects to download. I think the default Attila crossbows are used until someone nice and caring enough will create some.

There are, that is not a problem. I created one myself as well. You can take a look at my Hungarian and Latin crossbowmen to see what I mean.
The problem is rather having the units use them animated, cause as of now when walking around they carry the new crossbows, but when shooting with them, the black, vanilla crossbows appear and that is an animation issue .If we can figure out how to solve this, we would be able to add new bows as well.

Is the weapon used in an animation are dictated in the animations fragment? Perhaps you guys can make an animated model, then designate your weapon=crossbow_extended into the animation table?

    EDIT

Sorry, I was talking from my ass - I checked Attila's animation fragments table, and its not the same as Shogun's
