Default Which are the easiest factions to play in DEI's GC?

Looking to play some co-op campaign action with a friend who's relatively new to Rome 2. If DEI is too much we'll just play vanilla, but it got me thinking; what're the easiest factions to play, in your opinion? Obviously Rome takes the cake, but what else? (Maybe I want to play Rome :p ).

I've found playing as natural enemies helps a lot, as normally a faction that would need to guard a flank has a trusted ally there, and vice-versa. Rome/Carthage will control the Western Med, Pontus/Cimmeria will control the Black Sea, and Athens/Macedon can take on Greece, plus Egypt/Seleucids guarantees Mideast control.

Great idea! What about if we were intending to face off eventually? (As in, we can't be near each other due to not wanting a super short campaign :p )

In DEI the easiest faction is probably India due to the okay roster, good AoR, strong allies, weak enemies, quite a bit of bonus cash, and has that Eastern Wrestling arena.

If you mean the substantial garrison the wrestling arena added - it has been nerfed to fewer units in 1.1.

I am referring to the free +20 public order with a garrison that has a low tech prerequisite and only wine.
I also forgot that they don't have to worry about getting attacked from behind.

Ptolemaioi is a very easy faction, and if you want to play Rome that would be a good pairing. You could also play as Baktria/Mauryan Taxashila for another easy pairing. Enjoy your campaign!

I do agree here. Egypt is an easy and very strong starting faction.

Else Iceni might be an idea. Conquering Britain, you have high income, and without invasions, just a few villages to compete at start.

If you want to play Rome and give your friend an easy faction to play as in co-op. Try a Rome/Massilia file or a Rome Cimmeria file.

Massilia starts very close to Rome, has powerful units and is a walled city. In the unlikely event he gets himself in trouble, you are very close geographically to help him out.

Cimmeria starts off with three provinces and good military selection. You're quite a bit farther away, but you're only real threat is nomads, who can easy be dispatched in city fighting if they try to attack you.

    Try the Odrissian kingdom.

Parthia was fun and easy. Most people around you like you and the units are fun.

Edit: Or was it Persia? The one with the fancy cav which has bows and spears.

    Till shade is gone,
    till water is gone,
into the Shadow with the teeth bared,
screaming defiance with the last breath,
to spit into Sightblinder's eye on the Last Day

Persia isn't playable at the moment unless you run the mod with the AFP-submod. I'm assuming you mean Parthia!
It's a very fun faction with a fairly unique playstyle, yes!

Rome has to be the easiest faction ever, I agree. I could place legionnaires at the corner of the map, start the battle and go afk - chances are pretty high it would end up as a victory as long as I'm facing the enemy frontally and they can't flank me due to map borders covering the flanks. Due to this it's sadly a boring faction - not much challenge at all

Not a faction per se, but for factions that have multiple options, if you pick the one with the diplomatic bonus your life is going to be much easier vs picking the one with the minus. The game tends to become not fun quite fast when you have a faction with substantial diplomatic penalties.

I find Athens and Pergamon fairly easy in 1.05, as Hoplites are quite forgiving troops, and their starting positions are pretty solid. The Seleucids and Ptolemaioi are also good for this, but I tend to make Phalangite armies as the Diadochoi, and their starts are a little more complex, due to the extra territory. Athens and Pergamon are also easy to reach as Rome, if you need to help him out, while not in your immediate path, so you won't conflict with each other over territory.
Syracuse is also very strong, especially with the AoR missile troops
