Default Unit Banners on Battle Map

Is there a way to turn the unit banners back on? I searched for quite awhile here but I didn't see this question addressed.

    It's in the preferences.txt.

Which folder is that in? I read about that in a Google search but I swear I can't find it in any of the EBII folders.

The EBII version is EBII.cfg. Sometimes, EBII will use vanilla's preferences file, so check medieval2.preference.cfg as well if you're having trouble getting your changes to work.

It has yet to be mentioned, but where it says "show_banners=0", you have to write instead "show_banners=1", since "yes" and "no" are substituted with digital binary code in these files.

Some say it breaks immersion to have floating banners in addition to the regular banner men officers in each unit, but personally I think it adds a bit of aesthetically pleasing color. It also makes it easier to recognize your troops versus those of the enemy.

My problem was that I would order a unit to rush to a crisis area of the battlefield, but I didn't realize that it was bunched up with an enemy unit that was fighting to the death, so I would suffer unnecessary losses. I'm not able to tell all the hoplite units apart yet so without banners everything just looks like a big mosh pit.

Yeah, I know what you mean.

And just in case it wasn't made absolutely clear, the file in question is actually located directly in the main EB II folder, not the data folder!
