    Default Medieval 2 Launch Problem

I was playing the game fine until a couple days ago. I came back the next day and i tried to play it and it gave me the message "access denied login with administrator privileges and try again". I tried running it as administrator but it doesn't do anything after i do it. I've tried uninstalling it and reinstalling it and that doesn't work either. In fact i've looked in the game files and it seems like I'm missing files after i did the reinstall. Any help?

    Welcome to the forum!

Do you use Windows 7 or Windows 8? Are you using Steam, or discs? Do you have the Kingdoms expansion?

This problem is most likely related to a recent security update from Windows. Please read this post and all the ones following it.

I haven't read about game files being affected, however, so it may be a different problem. Still, please read those posts and report back here with the answers to the above questions, then we can help you further.

I am actually currently using windows vista. I have the disk version and also the kingdoms expansion. I don't think I was having any of those problems on that link as well

It also says it affects Rome 1 games but that has been working fine also so I'm not sure that that is the problem.

The problem is similar - can you start a kingdoms campaign?

Then you have the secdrv.sys problem that has been reported widely - nothing you can do about it other then play kingdom mods, it's not very likely that CA will bring out a fix now that the game is on Steam.
If you really want to play the Grand Campaign badly then install my Bare Geomod mod setup - it's the Grand Campaign ported to kingdoms.

Do you think that it would just work fine on steam? And is that mod easy to install?

To go through all the hassle to install M2TW via steam just to play the Grand Campaign is excessive (you still won't be able to play mods that require the medieval2.exe to play) - my mod set up installs extremely easy, theoretically you just have to click 'next' a few times.
