Default Medieval Kingdoms Total War: Seljuks of Rum

    The Seljuks of Rum

The Seljuk tribe was one of the many Turkic peoples who had been migrating progressively westward from the Central Asian steppes for thousands of years.
One of the two main branches that achieved fame throughout their history were the Anatolian Seljuks , who ruled from Konya, the other being the Great Seljuks, ruling over most of what is known today as Iran, Iraq and Syria.
Though of Turkic origin, Seljuks of Rum embraced Persian art, architecture, and literature and used Persian as a language of administration. Byzantine influence was also significant, since Greek aristocracy remained part of the Seljuk nobility, and the local Greek and Armenian population was still significant.
The Seljuks signed trade agreements with the Genoese and the Venetians, several sultans spent time during their youth at the Byzantine courts in Constantinople and marriages with Byzantine princesses were not a rarity. Thus they were in constant contact with both the christian West as well as the traditions of the Arabs and Persians. The Sultanate flourished.

But hear, divine Sultan, the voices of those who had to flee before the horror of another steppe peoples, the Mongols, a far greater threat than anything you have encountered before. Beware, as their customs in warfare are that of your own armies.
Will you swear allegiance to the Mongols and become their vassal or rely on your trusted ghulam warriors and drive the Hordes out of your land.

jaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaysus....you guys are awesome. Great work!
Finally, a more accurate representation of Seljukids in the gaming world
I feel like everything changed after the 1257 mod for M&B.

Do you guys have any plans for nomad mechanics btw? Seljukids and Khwarezmians and even other Arabic states had vassal Turkoman tribes that migrated around on their lands. Especially the Seljukdis had various Oghuz clans under them.
Maybe its early to ask but do you have any ideas?
"Therefore I am not in favour of raising any dogmatic banner. On the contrary, we must try to help the dogmatists to clarify their propositions for themselves. Thus, communism, in particular, is a dogmatic abstraction; in which connection, however, I am not thinking of some imaginary and possible communism, but actually existing communism as taught by Cabet, Dézamy, Weitling, etc. This communism is itself only a special expression of the humanistic principle, an expression which is still infected by its antithesis – the private system. Hence the abolition of private property and communism are by no means identical, and it is not accidental but inevitable that communism has seen other socialist doctrines – such as those of Fourier, Proudhon, etc. – arising to confront it because it is itself only a special, one-sided realisation of the socialist principle."

Is that one Turkish archer's clothing supposed to be that blue? Seems a bit intense! (the guy at front)

Other than that these look amazing!

yeah, it looks indeed a bit oversaturated on the screenshot. it did not look that way in tweak or in the game. I will tone it down

A heavy contender for first faction played. Good job but I have one tip: more variety in beards and mousaches i stead of on u it having only moustaches or nothing at all. You can use the black greek beard model

Ok, will add beards as well. I don´t know, I was always under the impression that turks rather prefered mustaches, and arabs were rather in favor of beards. But that is just an impression

Then this time please An Heavy Janissary Infantry with 1 handed blade/axt/mace and a Shield. (Probably you can add a Bow but with that ability they would be superior). [No two handed bugged of course] Maybe then i will get Attilla Total War

Oh my god guys, these units look absolutely fantastic. If all the other faction rosters live up to this quality, I will be quite impressed. Every last unit in these pictures looks incredible

Thanks guys for the praise, I am really glad you like the units, but it is more than fair to state, that a large part of the models and textures used for the seljuks preview originally come from the really nice guys who created the mod "crusaders way to expiation" for M&B. Even though that mod is dead, the guys were nice to make their assets available to any modder to use and they added it to the open source project.
Obviously the assets had to be edited heavily to fit the Total war environment, but yes, that is what sets great modders apart: to share stuff
And I am thankful for these guys and anyone who shares his knowledge or work.

This is slightly off topic, but after looking through the new resources from the latest update for Attila I noticed there is a new chainmail piece that includes a great looking mail coif. I'm sure one the guys on your team has the tool needed to open variantmesh files; that being the case, If you guys could open that model and seperate the coif from the body armor, I think it would fit nicely into this mod as a whole.
