Default Where are all the AAR's?

    Hey guys,

I came back after about a year of not playing this game to enjoy all the improvements, but on my free time at work I like to read AAR's to see how other people play through their games. Sadly it appears that there are almost no DEI AAR's out there, and the ones I found either look abandoned or simply have too much text and not enough actual gameplay.

So Im asking, is the Total War AAR community dying out? or is it just with Rome 2 or DEI?

(P.S. I wouldnt mind writing my own short AAR, I got a pretty interesting situation in my current campaign, but I want to see if there are still people posting and reading AAR's)

    Cheers!

I have a fairly popular Rome 2 AAR: The Black Hearted Lords of Thrace. Unfortunately the screenshots from the first couple of chapters are on my old hard drive and my photobucket folder was deleted, so I'll have to retrieve them, it's ongoing, and has over 20,000 views. I've been more focused on my Attila one. They're all located in the Writer's Study. There's a lot of people who are well known in the AAR community who didn't think that R2 was the most conducive engine for AARs, for the storytelling devices that were missing.

I will check it out, thanks!

I am actually considering making a quick AAR, no actual story telling, just quick action oriented AAR with a little roleplaying. As much as I would love to make a full story, it is simply too time consuming and I doubt Ill be able to finish it.

I personally find lets plays VERY boring to watch. There is nothing about them that pulls me in..

I think AAR's are just dying out and being replaced by "let's plays"... It sucks, because I like reading and checking out screenshots rather watching YouTube videos, and I can read AARs at work in spare moments whereas LPs really are not an option at work. Unfortunately I think that it is just the changing nature of gaming culture. LP makers can make money from YouTube views, and those are much easier to make than AARs. People who write AARs do so as much for the fun of writing and telling a story - they have characters and a narrative. Unfortunately AARs are time consuming to make and edit - pics have to be cut etc... Plus AAR writers won't have any additional incentive like money to keep posting if there is a lack of interest. LPs are mostly just recordings of some guy narrating as they play a game and they don't really take much more effort than just taking the time to play the game to begin with. Having written a couple AARs I can attest that writing 10-15 pages of dialogue and prose is a fair amount of work compared to just blathering on into a microphone while I play. All of this means that AARs are dying out and being replaced by LPs everywhere... The bright side is that if you Google "DEI Lets play" you will find quite a few videos! Good luck watching them at work though...

I started an AAR back in Feb. but real life got in the way. I'll probably try and do another when 1.1 comes out.

I haven't seen any AARs, although I've not really looked for them particularly hard.
I don't normally like the Let's Play style, but Massalia Tales is very good, with a well-crafted story element. It is from 0.9 though.
